I had a very poor experience with Teletext Holidays and would urge others to be extremely cautious.

I originally asked for a holiday to Egypt, but I felt pushed into booking Turkey after being told suitable Egypt options were not available. I paid a £500 deposit, but within 24 hours I contacted the company to ask either to amend the booking to Egypt or to cancel.

From that point on, the service was extremely disappointing. I made several calls and was given conflicting information by numerous advisers. On some calls I was told an amendment might be possible, on other calls I was told it was not. I was repeatedly told that another department would deal with it and that I would receive a callback, but this did not happen.

I was spoken over during calls, and on one occasion the phone was put down on me. I spoke to a floor supervisor, Gavin, who said he would speak to a manager and call me back the next day, but no callback was ever received. When I called myself the following evening, I was told he had gone home and the phone was then put down on me.

The whole process felt like a complete barrier to cancelling rather than a company properly helping a customer. I was eventually told verbally that I would lose my £500 deposit and also have to pay an additional £817, said to be the full cost of the flights, but I was not given the clear written breakdown I asked for.

I then had to send formal written cancellation and complaint emails just to create a paper trail because I no longer trusted what I was being told on the phone. Days after booking, I still have no proper resolution, no meaningful written response, and no clear outcome.

What makes this worse is that the company did not even follow through on what its own staff said would happen. I was promised callbacks that never came, told the matter would be escalated, and then left chasing for updates myself. Based on my experience, they failed to follow their own process and created unnecessary obstacles instead of handling the issue professionally.

My main concerns were:
• conflicting and misleading information from different staff
• repeated failure to call back as promised
• being spoken over on calls
• the phone being put down on me
• no proper written breakdown of charges when requested
• no resolution even days after booking
• failure to follow through on what staff and supervisors said would happen

Overall, I found the service stressful, obstructive, and unprofessional. I would not book through this company again, and I would strongly advise others to get everything in writing from the start.
