I've been wanting to try real Texas tamales for a long time, and it turned out to be a great opportunity to appreciate the dish live. The first thing that struck me was the fragrance that could be felt already at the entrance. The smell of fresh corn dough with spicy fillings creates a festive mood and you immediately want to try everything on the menu. The menu is not huge, but it is varied - there are classic tamales with meat, spicy versions with pepper, as well as sweet options with fruits and chocolate. I decided to take several types for tasting: classic with chicken, beef and sweet with cinnamon. Each tamale was carefully wrapped in corn leaves, which added authenticity and preserved juiciness. The taste was impressive - the dough is soft, slightly moist, with a pleasant texture. The fillings are balanced: the meat is tender, well-seasoned, the sweet tamale is not too cloying, the cinnamon is felt, but does not interrupt the taste of corn. The portions are adequate, satisfying enough to try several types and be satisfied.
These are the authentic tamales I remember from Colorado! They're genuinely delicious, though each tamale seems a bit smaller than what we used to get from Lonestar. That said, the flavor is spot-on, and the service is always top-notch.
I am disappointed with this shipment. The styrofoam container was way too large for the contents inside. This allowed significant shifting of product during shipment. Another words the tamales got banged up quite a bit. The worst affected were the cheese tamales, with cheese leeched out of the masa!Plus there were only 4 ice packs besides. That was not enough for keeping all those tamales cold. And it definitely didn’t provide any filler for the empty space inside!I do not know the source but a lot of moisture came out of the interior container leaking out onto the cardboard box! It was soaked on both ends. The bag of Queso enclosed was not ordered. I threw it out because it was outdated. Are the tamales outdated too? Is that why they were on sale?
