I had a very unsettling experience at this gym that made me question its true welcoming nature for newcomers or those recovering from injuries. While resting between sets and recording my weights and reps on my phone (not texting or recording), I was approached by other members who told me I didn’t belong in that area and should move to the “beginner’s area” instead of “sleeping on the machine.” I understand I was on the machine a bit longer than usual, but this was due to my recovery process. What further disappointed me was that when a trainer finally came over, instead of addressing the way I was treated, I was simply directed to a different machine. There was no effort made to ensure I felt comfortable or supported. For a gym that advertises itself as inclusive and welcoming, this experience felt quite the opposite. As a member for two years, it’s disheartening to feel judged and out of place for training responsibly as a beginner or recovering individual. I hope management takes a closer look at how beginners and injured members are treated on the gym floor.
