I feel compelled to reach out today to express my dissatisfaction with the service, the quality of the meal, the lengthy wait, and the confusion we encountered during a lunch visit on 22/12/25. To provide some context, we used to live in Leeds nearly 9 years ago and enjoyed visiting the center for gardening supplies, fish items, and, importantly, for a delightful lunch. During a recent day trip back to Leeds, I thought it would be nice to revisit this previously enjoyable location and spend some time browsing and dining. The store visit itself was fine; we appreciated seeing the donkeys (a lovely surprise) and I enjoyed exploring the aquatic section. However, when it came time for lunch around 11:00 am, we faced issues. At the cafeteria entrance, we joined a queue, only to notice others bypassing it and being seated. I approached an assistant who directed us to a table, but many people remained unaware they could simply seat themselves. The signage was confusing and poorly placed, providing too much information. A single clear sign stating "Queue here to be seated" would have sufficed. There were two counters: one for cakes and drinks, and another for hot meals. The queue obstructed the signs, causing further confusion as people walked through the counters without knowing where to go. Once seated, we received a menu and ordered a jacket potato with beans for my son and fish and chips for myself. My son went to place the order, only to find out that fish and chips wouldn’t be available until 12:00, despite it being around 11:30. While the time was indicated on the menu, I overlooked it. It seemed illogical for hot meals to be served at staggered times when one is simply craving something from the menu. I opted for a tuna sandwich instead. As we waited, I ordered two hot chocolates from the drinks counter, which took about 20 minutes to arrive, by which point our main meals and pot of tea had come. My son was dissatisfied with his jacket potato as it was merely warm, accompanied by beans and coleslaw. I was thoroughly disappointed with my tuna sandwich. The bread was excessively thick with little butter, and the tuna quality was poor. I couldn't finish one slice due to its thickness, and each quarter contained just one thin slice of cucumber. Overall, it was dreadful. Additionally, the prices are quite high for the portion sizes and quality of the food served. I left feeling disheartened by the entire experience at what was once a pleasant dining venue. I would not recommend this dining option to anyone. I apologize for sending this just before the new year, but I felt it necessary to share my concerns so improvements can be made for future customers.
