Disappointing experience with service and food

I feel compelled to reach out today to express my dissatisfaction with the service, the quality of the meal, the lengthy wait, and the confusion we encountered during a lunch visit on 22/12/25. To provide some context, we used to live in Leeds nearly 9 years ago and enjoyed visiting the center for gardening supplies, fish items, and, importantly, for a delightful lunch. During a recent day trip back to Leeds, I thought it would be nice to revisit this previously enjoyable location and spend some time browsing and dining. The store visit itself was fine; we appreciated seeing the donkeys (a lovely surprise) and I enjoyed exploring the aquatic section. However, when it came time for lunch around 11:00 am, we faced issues. At the cafeteria entrance, we joined a queue, only to notice others bypassing it and being seated. I approached an assistant who directed us to a table, but many people remained unaware they could simply seat themselves. The signage was confusing and poorly placed, providing too much information. A single clear sign stating "Queue here to be seated" would have sufficed. There were two counters: one for cakes and drinks, and another for hot meals. The queue obstructed the signs, causing further confusion as people walked through the counters without knowing where to go. Once seated, we received a menu and ordered a jacket potato with beans for my son and fish and chips for myself. My son went to place the order, only to find out that fish and chips wouldn’t be available until 12:00, despite it being around 11:30. While the time was indicated on the menu, I overlooked it. It seemed illogical for hot meals to be served at staggered times when one is simply craving something from the menu. I opted for a tuna sandwich instead. As we waited, I ordered two hot chocolates from the drinks counter, which took about 20 minutes to arrive, by which point our main meals and pot of tea had come. My son was dissatisfied with his jacket potato as it was merely warm, accompanied by beans and coleslaw. I was thoroughly disappointed with my tuna sandwich. The bread was excessively thick with little butter, and the tuna quality was poor. I couldn't finish one slice due to its thickness, and each quarter contained just one thin slice of cucumber. Overall, it was dreadful. Additionally, the prices are quite high for the portion sizes and quality of the food served. I left feeling disheartened by the entire experience at what was once a pleasant dining venue. I would not recommend this dining option to anyone. I apologize for sending this just before the new year, but I felt it necessary to share my concerns so improvements can be made for future customers.

Disappointing dining experience

I felt compelled to reach out today to express my dissatisfaction with the poor service and subpar meal my autistic adult son and I experienced on 22/12/25. We used to enjoy visiting this garden center during our time in Leeds about nine years ago, but this visit was disappointing. We enjoyed browsing the store and were pleasantly surprised by the donkeys and the aquatic section. However, when it came time for lunch around 11:00 am, we encountered confusion at the cafeteria. We joined a queue but noticed others bypassing it and getting seated. An assistant directed us to a table, but many were still unaware they could sit down. The signage was misleading and too cluttered, causing confusion. Once seated, we ordered jacket potato with beans for my son and fish and chips for myself, only to find out the hot meals wouldn't be served until 12:00, despite the menu stating the time. I opted for a tuna sandwich instead, and while waiting, we ordered hot chocolates that took 20 minutes to arrive. My son's jacket potato was warm, not hot, and my tuna sandwich was disappointing, with thick bread and low-quality tuna. The prices were high for the quality offered. Overall, this experience at what used to be a pleasant dining spot was extremely unsatisfactory, and I wouldn't recommend this kitchen to anyone.

Disappointing aquatic section visit

I visited the garden center to check out the aquatic department, but it was a letdown. The outdoor pond area was in disrepair, with dead fish and plants, and the tanks were dirty and empty. It's shocking that such a significant investment in the garden center allows a company to operate in this manner. I'm reporting this to local authorities for investigation. I recommend finding an alternative place to spend your money.

Avoid the fruit vendor

I purchased strawberries, grapes, and nectarines from the vendor outside, but they were all rotten beneath the surface. While this issue isn't directly related to the garden center, they should take responsibility for the vendors on their property.

Unhelpful staff at the cafe

While the garden center offers a lovely selection of Christmas decorations, my experience at the cafe was frustrating. We arrived just before 11 am and were told we could still order breakfast. However, when we tried to place our order, I was rudely informed that we had missed the breakfast time by just two minutes. Despite explaining the situation, the staff were unhelpful, and we ultimately left without ordering. Very disappointing.

Santa visit was underwhelming

We returned to the garden center to see Santa for the fourth consecutive year. While Santa was wonderful, our experience was marred when the lights around the lake suddenly went out, plunging us into darkness. My daughter was terrified, and we rushed to exit. A staff member rudely blamed us for still being there and failed to ensure our safety. This incident overshadowed what should have been a magical moment, and I have tried to reach out to the garden center about this lack of safety but have received no response.

Fantastic service from Lisa!

I took my parents to the shoe section, and Lisa was exceptionally helpful and polite throughout our visit. However, another staff member with short black hair ignored my request for assistance, which was quite rude. Lisa's attitude was commendable, and I wish others would follow her example.

Outstanding customer care from Tim

I accidentally purchased the wrong greenhouse and called for assistance. Tim took the time to find the correct one and set it aside for me to exchange. His support was above and beyond what I expected. Thank you, Tim!

Mediocre food at the Mezzanine

We had lunch at the Mezzanine during our recent visit, but the food was only mediocre and overpriced, despite decent service. We won't be returning.
