For the first time, I did my taxes with TurboTax online. I usually buy the CD and use that software. When I started my return there was an offer for $159 to get expert advice from TurboTax. I started my return, entered a great deal of information. because I was scammed out of a lot of money last year from a fraudulent crypto platform. I need to understand how to enter that into my taxes. I selected get a call back from TurboTax. I waited about 10 minutes and received my call back. I asked the “tax professional” how to enter that information so I can get a deduction on my tax return. I explained my situation and she came back with. I am not allowed to receive a deduction for the loss I incurred because I pulled money out of my 401(k) and IRA to invest in this crypto platform. I am 63 years old. I’m retired. I’m allowed to pull money out of my IRA and 401(k) and pay the taxes on it. She told me that because I used my IRA and 401(k) I am unable to receive a deduction for that money. I explained to her that this wasn’t a rollover. This was me withdrawing money out of my account and then using that money to invest in a fraudulent crypto scheme we went back-and-forth and I tried to explain my situation in different ways, but she kept coming back with. No you cannot have a deduction for that loss. I didn’t believe her, but she told me that information again and again so I hung up just for shits and giggles. I checked Grok perplexity AI and ChatGPT at first with croc. I was told that I didn’t give them enough information but from what they got for me, the loss was not deductible. I then explain my situation in detail just like I did with the “tax professional” and I got a different answer that said in my situation, I am allowed to deduct that loss from my tax return. I then checked perplexity AI, and ChatGPT, and I received the same information I got from Grok the second time. I am allowed to deduct that loss on my tax return. So paying $159 for expert tax help is just a scam because they just hire anybody and give them a computer and tell them how to search. I called TurboTax to find out how I can transfer the information. I’ve already entered to a new return without paying that $159 fee. I asked to speak to a supervisor because the “tax professional” was unable to answer my question. I sat on hold for over 10 minutes and I got a another “tax professional” instead of a supervisor. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she put me on hold and I waited another seven minutes. She came back and told me that in this company we do not transfer you to supervisors. I got upset and told her that this is bullshit. She told me I’m not allowed to use derogatory terms. I told her that I was not using the word bullshit in a derogatory way I was explaining how ridiculous that rule is that they have basically they’re just washing their hands of any responsibility as I was explaining that to her she hung up on me. This company does not care about the people that purchased their software. They only care about making money and giving you bad information.
