To be honest, I was hesitant about buying a dual boot Ubuntu 18.04 - Windows 10 laptop from them given the poor ratings they got from their own version of Ubuntu which has had some issues on driver and power management. Given they boxed and shipped dual boots and I could find nothing more on them of a negative connotation, I decided to look into them further and started asking questions from their customer support department. The responded within a week each time and were accurate in their answers giving me confidence to order from them the following spec:Description TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro 13 v3 - 13,3"non-glare Full-HD or QHD+ IPS + aluminiumcase + up to Intel Core i7-Quad-Core + up to32GB RAM + up to two HDD/SSD + up to 12hbattery + USB-C Thunderbolt 3Unit Price EUR1.371,99Quantity 1 incl. The Dell XPS was not a dual boot machine, cost c.Eur1800 and despite its fast processing power was beaten in one or two areas by Tuxedo's offering. This independent study was covered by notebookcheck atnotebookcheck.net, search for "Tuxedo-InfinityBook-Pro-13-2017". To give you an idea, the same spec Apple Macbook pro but with just 250GB of ssd storage space on a 2.4ghz clock speed and lower spec RAM along with single boot MacOS retails on Apple store at c.Eur2300.So, I ordered my machine happy with price and spec and it was delivered 2 weeks later. The craftsman ship was good, there were no obvious hardware faults I could see (I'm a Software Engineer), and I set it up on Ubuntu and Windows. The aluminium finish looks very nice.. it rivals the Macbook look! I had no need to contact customer support as the setup was very smooth.. Windows was more demanding on set up requirements but thats an OS configuration difference rather than an issue. Ubuntu by design is light. So, when I got my CalDev (calendar) and WebDev(contacts) loaded either manually (windows does not support webdev at this time) and by API, I was ready to go. I installed my dev apps, IDE, editors, SDKs, etc and the super fast speed of install and download was amazing.. . On speed and performance, it made my mid 2012 Macbook pro look like an old Granny going for her messages at the local supermarket!! Incredible speed even under load as it was with synching with Google Drive, OneDrive and downloading MS Visual Studio at the same time. These cpu intensive tasks would have throttled my Mac into the ground, but the only thing I noted on my Infinity pro was the swooshing of the fan to handle the extra workload under pressure. I could still browse websites, open apps, do what I wanted, which was incredibly positive as an outcome. The machine itself is slightly lighter than the Macbook pro mid 2012, which I think is down to the lighter laptop lid. This requires a little care in opening up the lid as you need to hold the lower/main part with your finger as you open the lid. Most people who are Windows users do this anyway but as a Mac user, I found this point to be relevant for me. Once I did this, it opened as easily as any Windows laptop you can think of. Drivers are the best I have seen in any dual boot. It makes installing printers, devices, this, that and the other very smooth on both Ubuntu and Windows. Bearing the above in mind, the keyboard is well spaced and not un-similar in feel to a Macbook pro Mid 2012 keyboard. Its a nice feel BUT it is a Windows/Ubuntu Layout, not Mac. Adjustment for me from Mac is not a big deal and I switch daily between then without issues. One thing though, the good driver config makes function (fn) keys possible and depending on what you are doing, very useful as a feature. If you accidentally lock your function (fn) key, ignore most of what you see online about deleting drivers and let the OS reinstall them. To unlock your fn key lock, which in essence driver (hardware) driven on either Ubuntu or Windows so you don't print the function keys (e.g. 4) in purple instead of the main key character (e.g. u) in white on the keyboard, just do the following:1. Hold down Fn, Num Lk and Scr Lk at the same time2. Then keep pressing on Fn and then press F11 This will unlock your function (Fn) lock keys, which is controlled by the drivers, not the O/s Windows, Ubuntu, etc. So in summary, good customer service, good price, good outcome for a high spec machine which fulfilled my expectations. A smooth buying and setting up process that makes me recommend Tuxedo and will buy again (all thing been equal) from them into the future. If you are a Ubuntu fan like me, but like or need other OS like Windows, then its a good idea to check Tuxedo out as I can now say they deliver what you order! 5 Stars!
