Linwood House Barnsley Ukat.Very poor experience and not worth £6.025 I paid for a 14 day treatment plan which was more like 12 days when you consider 2+ hours checkin assessment (arrived 2pm shown to room 4.40pm) and traveling home on the 14th day -your overnight stay is only 13 nights, and although you can go to groups and be fed on the 14th day I'm sure they realise most clients will have to set off early to travel home. Clearly a way for them to save money.Therapy groups mainly consisted of a different client each morning telling their life story of how their addiction has affected them or a client talking about their step work ( They use the AA/NA12 step recovery programme, one step completed per week of stay) which your therapist should explain how to do during your first one to one and within 48hrs of arrival but which never happened for me causing me a lot of anxiety. Due to being understaffed or just forgotten about I was not assigned a therapist to explain my care plan and what to expect (step work etc) until the 6th day ! -this led to a lot of anxiety but thankfully fellow clients helped me. Support workers were mainly ex "care home" staff mostly African nationals and paid minimum wage for 12.5hour shifts + having the responsibility to give out medication when they looked tired. Lovely staff but definitely overworked and undervalued.Avoid being accommodated any room numbered 5-9 upstairs or face being woke up at 6am each morning by clients going to the medication room. More workshops needed. Other than groups where clients tell their life story or step work there was very little else course wise and no exercise activities bar one weekly walk if they have someone to facilitate it.Don't waste your money going to Linwood...they will detox you and you will remain sober as you can't leave the place but it is not worth the money you pay ! I can see how it could actually make things worse for some addicts due to the lack of support. The 2 support workers who work evenings were rarely seen and usually sat in the office but what do you expect when they are only paid minimum wage, I guess some would want to do as little as possible.Big turn over of staff -a new manager every year for at least the last six years ! I guess they must use Linwood as a stepping stone to further their career. The current manager Amanda really nice but doubt she will work their for long due to financial constraints ukat are imposing -you get what you pay for staff wise....sadly clients don't get the level of service promised and not value for money for the amount of money it cost.Take heed of this review...I wish I had listened to my gut feeling having read some of the recent low scoring reviews. Save your money and look elsewhere or live to regret it.
