I was in the market for a soundbar…

I was in the market for a soundbar having been totally underwhelmed by the awful sounds produces by my Samsung TV.It was for a bedroom albeit a large room of some 35ft x 22ft.I was expecting cinematic levels of sound quality and volume, or even critical listening qualities...but just an improvement in dialogue and a more enjoyable watching experience. I didn't have a huge budget to justify a fully fledged surround system as I already have a cinema room in my living room.After checking reviews online for the typical brands of Samsung / Sony / LG / sonos (expensive!!). I knew my expectations of getting anything other than a simple standalone soundbar was probably all that a budget of less than £200 would allow.I visited the likes of currys / Hughes/ richer sounds for demos of potential candidates and was dismayed by the lack of models in my price bracket that were worthy of buying.I kept coming back to amazon reviews for a brand unknown to me (Ultimea) and certainly not promoted by the typical highstreet retailers.Yet the reviews seemed to be so resoundingly positive that I couldn't ignore them anymore.Upon going on to the very slow loading (!) Ultimea website, I was stunned at how extensive their range of soundbar / projectors and accessories was.It was very difficult to discern how all the ranges were differentiated and targeted different budgets / room sizes / listening expectations.So I went back to amazon's website and used the reviews to guide me a little more.Ultimea have a refurbished product store and thought I would just purchase what seemed to be the most expensive / best featured / best value surround system my £200 could afford.I normally don't buy refurbished electronics fearing unmentioned damage or electrical faults.But as it was coming direct from the manufacturer, I hoped that it might be "properly" refurbished and not just reboxed.I settled on the poseidon d80 at £158 which was a huge saving on its normal retail price and much much cheaper than any comparable product from one of main brand companies.I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived super fast within 3 days from a UK outlet.The retail box came outer boxed in a plain brown box and everything inside was beautifully packaged.The surround speakers and centre soundbar were very very small, but the finish of the plastic casing and metal grills was of a very high standard. The subwoofer was also very compact but again exudes quality in the finish.All the speakers looked brand new and have a certain heft far belying their tiny dimensions.In particular the soundbar is so small, I worried that it might not be up to the job.On setting up (a 5min affair, no need to check the manual)....I was blown away with how amazing the sound quality was.I couldn't believe that this tiny system was producing such an immersive / powerful and detailed sound.I have not been able to turn it up to maximum, they are so loud that my ears were ringing, yet no distortion at all.On quieter sections or when a movie is paused, there is zero noise from any of the speakers...which is a remarkable achievement.The supplied remote feels quality and has lots of buttons to adjust practically all the sound settings and effects. It is logically laid up and labelled up, no referring to manuals needed.I thought I would download the app (unheard of at this price point from other manufacturers) and was instantly offered an update to the systems firmware.3 mins later and I was totally blown away with the sound. The bass was ridiculously deep / powerful and had real slam. The rear surrounds had real presence and really added to the immersive sound this setup was producing.It was like the system had been changed for a totally updated physically larger setup.I never ever right reviews, but my experience with this whole system from opening of the box, the well packaged quality drivers, to simplistic fast setup and stunning performance compelled me to share my experience. I am aware there is a new d80 boom version out and I can only be in awe if Ultimea have managed to extract even more performance from their system from what is already a truly epic performer in the poseidon d80.I would happily trial this setup and write a review if they were to offer me a unit to try?My partner has a Sony soundbar setup with sub, which I thought was great...had won lots of reviews and accolades on what hifi and the like.But on hearing this Ultimea setup, she has been stunned at what she had heard.For the price / size of system and sheer dynamic performance on offer...I'm left wondering why this company's products are not in every highstreet retailer and winning accolades on review sites and publications everywhere. I will happily tell anyone thats interested, you must check out their products and be amazed.Well done Ultimea
