If you are considering renting from U-Save Car and Truck Rental in Tampa, FL, I strongly urge you to proceed with extreme caution, document everything, and file formal complaints with the following agencies if you experience similar issues:* Florida Attorney General* Tampa Airport Aviation Authority* Better Business Bureau* Federal Trade Commission (FTC & Identity Theft)* Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services* Hillsborough County Consumer & Veterans Services* Tampa Police DepartmentDespite having full-coverage auto insurance that met U-Save’s requirements, I was required to provide a $2,000 deposit for a rental Oct 18-25. I was repeatedly assured in person that this would be a temporary authorization hold only and that my card would not be charged. This was false. My card was fully charged $2,000 on October 18, and the transaction posted on October 19—without my authorization and in direct contradiction to their own written policy. When I discovered the unauthorized charge on October 20, I immediately contacted U-Save. I was given no explanation, told to call back for a manager, and then my calls began going unanswered. I made numerous calls, sent texts (all read and ignored), and received a blank email with only attachments of my rental agreement and their hold policy—which clearly states that deposits are held, not charged. After that, communication essentially stopped.I returned the vehicle on October 25 with a full tank of gas, no damage, and all tolls paid (receipts provided). The employee confirmed my full $2,000 refund would be issued within 7–10 days. It was not.Over the following weeks, I was repeatedly given false information (short synopsis):* On November 10, I was told the refund had already been processed — it had not.* U-Save’s corporate office is inaccessible by phone; only online requests are allowed.* A corporate representative (“Chris”) confirmed that deposits are released at return, yet stopped responding once I provided bank documentation proving the charge was posted and never refunded.* On November 17, I was again told the refund had “just been processed” and would appear the next day — it never did.* Additional calls were disconnected, ignored, or transferred to non-working numbers.* On November 23, I received a generic delay email asking for “a few more days,” despite weeks of silence and no resolution. As of today, U-Save still has my $2,000. I did not authorize this charge, their own written policy was violated, and they have now ceased responding entirely. This has been one of the most stressful and unethical business experiences I have ever encountered. The lack of transparency, repeated misinformation, and refusal to return a clearly unauthorized charge is unacceptable.Rent elsewhere. Protect your finances. And if you’re already dealing with this—document everything.
