Review Time
Arrived to collect a car at the Gatwick depot in London. The shuttle service from the airport was efficient and the collection process itself was fairly smooth.
However, I was very disappointed with the experience at the desk. The staff member sold us additional insurance cover that we clearly didn’t need. While I acknowledge that I ultimately agreed to it, the way it was presented felt like high-pressure selling.
We were collecting the car late in the evening after travelling with young children, and I wasn’t in the best frame of mind to analyse what was being said. I had already purchased third-party excess/deposit cover in advance, which on review provided more than adequate protection. When asked, I told the agent that I already had cover. I was then told that my policy was “no good” and was strongly encouraged to buy USave’s cover instead.
Under pressure, I agreed and ended up paying roughly £250 for their cover — more than the cost of the original car hire itself.
In hindsight I should have pushed back, but the sales approach felt inappropriate given the circumstances and left a bad impression. Customers should be aware that additional cover may be pushed strongly at the desk. If you already have excess insurance, it’s worth reviewing it beforehand and being prepared to decline.
We rented this car off of Expedia. Expedia gave us a price which was very decent, but when we got to the car rental place which was off airport property, which is a whole other issue. USAVE, added all these extra fees that were not agreed upon when renting the vehicle. They didn't ask or give us an option to accept or waive these additional fees. They charged fees from Houston to Timbuktu. Something we never seen or heard of. It wasn't until I received an alert on my phone from my credit card company asking me to authorize a charge that was pending that I noticed, not only did they try and charge my credit card for toll fees, plus $25 a day that we specifically declined, they charged us triple the amount that was quoted from Expedia.
Is this highway robbery at it's finest? Who charges $25 a day for tolls, plus the toll fees? This is down right ridiculous and a scam. I have to say, we got scammed!!! We should've known better. They didn't provide us a receipt or explain what we were initialing or signing. SO, PLEASE BE AWARE, especially of the one in HOUSTON, TX. Ask for a receipt before leaving the counter and definitely ask to see what you are signing because they don't explain it to you. I also want to mention that customer service was 1%. The 1st car, the seatbelt didn't work. They had to switch it out. As I mentioned before, the rental place is off of airport property, so we had to wait for a private shuttle that stated they were 24/7, but since we made the mistake without checking in advance, we had to turn the car in early and catch an uber back to our hotel because the office didn't open until 7am and out flight was leaving at 6am. It was such a big inconvenience for my family and we travel a lot, but never had this kind of experience from a car rental place.
U-Save / Green Motion Tangier is running a deposit-scam operation.
At pickup, we were explicitly told we were fully insured and charged 360 MAD per day for insurance, which according to their own tables equals Premium Plus coverage. Super CDW costs only 120 MAD/day, yet after the rental they suddenly claimed we were not fully covered.
They then charged 5,000 MAD for a tiny “star” on the windscreen, refused to provide photos, and kept the deposit. The value is completely unjustified.
More red flags:
Pickup in the dark, impossible to inspect the car properly
Credit cards falsely claimed “not working” to force charges
An unauthorised 600 MAD fee, refunded only after an argument
Customer service hides behind fine print and ignores clear pricing evidence.
This is not a misunderstanding — it’s deliberate and systematic theft.
Avoid at all costs.
We rented a car from u-save car rental company, they are complete thieves and scammers. We rented a very comfortable car and had full insurance for any accident or situation, but when our car broke down, they left us stranded, didn't provide a replacement car, and showed no interest whatsoever. They even caused us significant financial hardship. They are absolutely indifferent, scammers, and thieves. Stay away from this car rental company. We found this company through the VIP cars app on Skyscanner; please be careful when using that app as well.
I typically avoid leaving 1-star reviews, but this situation warrants one. I rented a vehicle from a company that informed me of a $2,000 hold, which was supposed to be released upon returning the car. A month later, I discovered that the $2,000 was not just a hold; they had charged my card. I reached out to the location, but the representative was unprofessional and provided misleading information. They assured me I would receive an email and that the funds would be released shortly, but I never got the email, nor did I see a refund. I had to involve a third-party platform, which also struggled to communicate with the company. After multiple unreturned calls, I had to file a dispute with my credit card provider, and even they couldn’t get a response. It took nearly two more months to recover my money. After researching, I found numerous similar complaints about the $2,000 charge and lack of communication, which is very concerning. This was one of my most frustrating rental experiences, and I highly recommend anyone considering this company to read multiple reviews beforehand. Personally, I would not choose them again.
I received great help from the staff at the rental office. Both representatives were professional and always had a smile, eager to assist. Other employees, including shuttle drivers and office staff, were also polite and contributed to a positive experience. Their great attitude makes customers want to return. Thank you very much!
Steer clear! My flight was delayed arriving in Puerto Rico, and I confirmed my reservation just before 2 PM. After explaining my situation, the company texted me at 3 PM stating my reservation was 'Expired' due to the late arrival. I attempted to call but received no answer. Eventually, a bus driver connected me to the manager, who acknowledged my confirmation but claimed they were overbooked. I ended up paying double for an emergency booking elsewhere. The risk isn’t worth the potential savings. Choose a reputable company instead.
The experience was outright dangerous. There are safer ways to take risks than renting from this company. The vehicle lacked winter tires, which are required in certain conditions—leading to an immediate safety failure. The windshield washer fluid was empty, creating a hazardous situation. The car constantly pulled to one side, didn’t meet local standards, and was registered elsewhere. To make matters worse, the vehicle was dirty, and when I raised serious safety concerns, the staff hung up on me. Overall, avoid this company at all costs; renting from them puts your safety at risk.
