From day one, I had a negative experience with Varsity Tutors and the tutors assigned to me. They were consistently late, and for the final session, they simply failed to show up at all, leaving me with no choice but to cancel the tutoring service. Surprisingly—and not until *after* I had cancelled their services and made repeated phone calls—was I informed that, in order to receive a refund, I was required to complete 12 hours of tutoring and take the actual exam.
One of my primary complaints is that Varsity failed to provide me with a tutor possessing the appropriate expertise for the specific subject area in which I needed preparation. My tutor struggled to teach me mathematics and did not possess the requisite proficiency level to successfully prepare me to pass the exam.
Throughout our sessions, I voiced my concerns on multiple occasions. I even contacted Varsity’s customer service department to report the issues I was experiencing. Their only response was to assign me a tutor specializing in the K-5 level—despite the fact that my certification (CE) covers the K-6 level. This demonstrates that Varsity lacks judgment—and possesses no real insight—regarding what their clients truly need; they appear willing to assign just about anyone to a session, even if that individual does not meet the necessary qualifications. My entire experience with Varsity’s tutoring program was one of frustration, a waste of both time and money; furthermore, I have now fallen behind in achieving my goal of passing the FTCE exam within the timeframe I had originally set for myself. From the very beginning, no specific work plan was established for me. When I was asked to upload the results of my previous exams, that information was not shared with the tutor so that they could plan and prepare for the session prior to meeting with me. Moreover, even when I personally provided that information to the tutor myself, it became apparent that the assigned individual was still not the right fit for me; they continued to arrive late and without the necessary preparation.
In summary: beyond their lack of subject-matter expertise, the tutors were frequently late and unprepared, possessing absolutely no prior knowledge regarding my specific goals or my exam history. I voiced these concerns on multiple occasions, but my complaints fell on deaf ears. The result has been a considerable waste of time and money.
I requested that my case be escalated to management or the company owner, but I was informed that this was not possible. And forget about getting your money back—despite what they advertise! They won't do it, no matter how deficient the service provided may have been.
