I purchased a Ryoko modem, which gave me a Viaota plan in July 2025. After a long delay in getting my dongle, in August 2025, I activated and tested the device before heading to the Australian outback. I was disappointed with performance while in Adelaide. The signal strength and speed were less than my Telstra dongle I have been using. I then moved onto regional South Australia, where in a country town, I had the same issues. The problems only became worse, when the Ryoko/Viaota combine was useless. I could still get some spotty service with Telstra. When I got back to the east coast, and had the opportunity to contact Ryoko, they basically did not respond for some time, and did not offer much for me to try. I attempted to get a refund through PayPal, but they returned with "outside of returns" policy. I contacted Ryoko again, but they shut me down with the same returns policy. Then onto Viaota, they billed me after 6 months for the next year! I had thrown modem in the bin 3 months earlier, but in my disgust forgot to cancel the data from Viaota. I had again, emailed and tried to contact them through their website, and while the initial contact was made, there has been no follow up on their behalf. The initial advertising got me hooked, but after that I believe they do not give a crap about a 70 year old pensioner. I normally do not bother eating my valuable time chasing these overseas businesses, but I have had a gut full. Even though their records will show I have not used 1 byte of data, they continue to ignore my request for what is 1 weeks rent for me.
