The car itself was in good condition and transfer from the airport to the location was smooth. There was an attempted very hard sell on extra insurance at the counter, combined with quite slow check-in and some alleged difficulty processing a normal overseas credit card payment that was used as an attempt to force the extra insurance as well. Charging (rather than merely holding) the large deposit for damage and fuel is not unusual among these sorts of second-tier rental companies. I read horror stories online about charging for damage after return. This apparently did not happen in this instance, with the deposits being returned in full, but I made a point of extensive photo documentation before and after as well as conveying an impression of vigilance and willingness to pursue remedies if anything untoward happened. I strongly recommend ample photos before and after to reduce temptation.
