I recently took part in a WeRoad trip to Mexico, and I have to say, the entire experience was very disappointing.
When I booked the trip, the information clearly stated that accommodation was included, but nowhere did it mention any additional hotel taxes. However, these were later deducted from the group fund, which felt misleading, especially considering the already steep price I paid for the trip.
The hotels were, to be blunt, more like hostels—definitely not up to even a one-star standard. Many of them were priced at around £35 per night for two people, but the overall cost of the trip was £1,269, not including flights. The rooms had dirty towels, stained sheets, leaking air conditioning, no hairdryers, poor water pressure, and overall subpar maintenance. Some toilets didn’t flush, and the lack of privacy in certain hotels was shocking. For example, one bathroom had no door, and another had no glass in the window—so we could hear everything from every room. It was very uncomfortable.
Breakfast was another letdown. Every single morning, we were given only eggs, with no alternatives for those with dietary restrictions or intolerances. It was the same thing day after day, with no variety at all.
There was also a complete lack of transparency when it came to the group’s money pot. Decisions were made without consulting anyone, particularly when it came to things like tipping and extra costs.
Many of the hotels were located far from the activities, which meant we were spending about seven hours each day on the bus and had to pay for taxis to get around. Better location choices could’ve saved us a lot of time and money.
By the time I factored in the flights and extra expenses, the trip ended up costing me around £4,000. For that price, I received subpar accommodation, one included activity, and zero food options. On top of that, I was asked to cover the driver’s costs, as WeRoad didn’t pay them a living wage! In the end, the trip didn’t match what was advertised and certainly didn’t offer value for money.
I would definitely recommend avoiding WeRoad.
