The contract we entered with Westgate Resorts in May 2023 was done so under circumstances fraught with deceptive sales practices and material misrepresentation. During what was represented as a brief "2-hour" presentation on our Orlando vacation, we were subjected to a high-pressure sales environment. We met this opportunity while looking for Universal Studios tickets during our spring break with our son. We responded to an advertisement offering discounted tickets in exchange for attending what was described as a 2-hour breakfast and informational presentation. Upon arrival at 9am, we were assigned to a salesperson who assured us we would be finished within two hours. Instead, the presentation lasted over six hours, during which we were subjected to relentless sales pressure. Particularly disturbing was that our identification documents were taken from us at check-in, effectively preventing us from leaving when the agreed-upon 90 minutes had passed. This tactic forced us to still be on the premises for six hours, deliberately wearing down our resolve until we bought something we could not afford. This practice of holding guest’s captive is unconscionable. Westgate representatives did not show several critical elements of the agreement. They did not inform us that this was a lifetime commitment, which is a serious breach of trust and failure to show material terms. Additionally, they did not inform us of the interest rate on the financing, the required membership fees for exchange companies like Interval and Westgate Cruise and Travel, the specific cancellation period for the contract, or the fact that HOA and maintenance fees would increase over time. They repeatedly left the table and returned with managers or supervisors who would cross out numbers on paperwork and write lower figures to create urgency and pressure. Finally, multiple employees claimed that Westgate had an affiliation with Disney. This claim has turned out to be a complete fabrication and was one of the main reasons we bought the timeshare. This deliberate misrepresentation of a Disney partnership is fraudulent and constitutes false advertising.
