Westway reached a new level of dog and customer care yesterday. We took our dog Nell into the Fenham surgery at 10am on the 10 Sept for an appointment regarding a hind leg and were made to wait until 10.30 before being seen. We were asked to pay an £800 deposit before the appointment. They wanted to check her bloods under supportive care at a cost of £548 and take an X-ray at a cost of £642. We arrived to collect her at 5.30 and were again made to wait the usual 30 minutes before being seen. The first words of the receptionist werethat we owed another £588 without any explanation of how we had incurred the costs. Eventually after insistence we were given an explanation and itemised invoice. Nell was returned to us in a distressed condition and we have been asked to return her in 48 hours so they can test her bloods again albeit they were clear the first time and told they would like to do a CT scan which together would cost another £1500. The amount of money is not the issue as we would do anything to safeguard the health of both our dogs but my wife sensed we were being ripped off at every turn and we are no further forward as to why she cannot weight bear on her hind leg. There should be an investigation into the overcharging of veterinary surgeries.
