If I could give minus stars then I would - I took my 20 year old rescue ragdoll cat to Westways - she was ill and needed to go to Rainbow Bridge and on the advice of the vets made an appointment - this was the last act of love and kindness that I could do for her as she was suffering - I wrote a letter and gave it to the vet before they took her into the examination room explaining she was an anxious and stressed who followed me everywhere - I was not allowed to go into the examination room because of COVID but was informed I could be with her when they put her to sleep. Off to examination room she went and shortly afterwards the vet brought her out in her cat carrier - I was so happy as I thought they had made a mistake and she was coming home only to be informed that there were taking her backing in the examination room to insert a catheter ready for the procedure - after a 15/20 mins wait which I thought was rather a long time I was called into the examination for what I thought would be a humane and peaceful ending to Amber's life - how wrong was I she was on the examination room alert, struggling to get off the examination table - both her legs had been shaved when I asked why they said she had "gangly old lady legs" when I asked why they had not sedated her I was informed she did not need it - were they not seeing what my partner and I observing my poor frightened cat struggling to get off the examination table - had the vet not taken the time to read my letter explaining how my cat reacted when I was not around and how stressed she would become - It took my partner to hold Amber's terrified shaking body - I held her head stroking and talking to her to calm her down - the nurse held Ambe'rs leg while the vet took several attempts to insert the needle into the catheter to put Amber to rest - this is not the way any animals ending should be - I complained to Westways Vets but to date I have not received an apology or any satisfactory explanation on why my Amber's life should have been ended in such a traumatic and unprofessional way - I would never ever take any animal of mine to this vets and would certainly not recommend them WESTWAY VETS AT TYNEMOUTH YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED
