I started using We Work Remotely’s reverse recruiting service at the end of May [insert year]. It was not made clear that the recruiter might submit applications to jobs I hadn’t approved, including roles at companies I would definitely not want to work for.The service also did not apply to the number of jobs per day they had suggested. After more than two months, they had not reached the promised 100 resumes submitted — which, even if I had reviewed each job description, should not have taken that long. They offered to re-review my resume and, because not all 100 applications had been completed, suggested submitting applications to jobs I had previously said I didn’t want. This makes no sense — if I didn’t want them before, why would I want them now?I repeatedly tried to discuss my concerns and the process with them, including what would happen if I didn’t get even a single interview. After more than three months, I received zero interviews. While I understand no one can guarantee a job, I did not expect to see absolutely no results. They claim to use AI for recruiting, but in reality, there was a human recruiter submitting applications — sometimes without my knowledge or consent. When I raised concerns, I was told this was “how the process works,” and that some applications would be submitted without my approval — which I had not agreed to.While some approved jobs were submitted correctly, the service did not deliver as promised, caused stress, and left me without the level of communication or control I expected.Advice to others:Confirm in writing exactly what jobs will be applied to and the daily volume of applications.Make sure you understand who is submitting applications and whether a human is involved.Ask for clarity on how interviews and follow-ups will be tracked.Clarify what happens if the promised number of applications is not reached, and whether “solutions” offered actually make sense for your goals.Be realistic about how long 100 applications should take — if the service falls far behind, it’s not your responsibility.
