Fraudulent Estate Agents - **Be Very Cautious with This Company**We recently applied to rent a house through this estate agent and paid a holding deposit. From the start, we communicated our preference for a 6-month fixed-term tenancy, with the intention to extend the lease once a relationship was established with the landlord. This was agreed upon by Danny, the manager at Peterborough Letting. However, after all the checks and references were completed, Danny sent us the tenancy agreement, which was completely different from what we had discussed. The agreement had no break clause and set a 12-month fixed term, meaning we would be liable for the full rent even if we decided to move out earlier or if the landlord asked us to leave. When we raised this issue, they claimed that the landlord had refused to adjust the terms. For over a week, we were subjected to short ultimatums from Danny, but things didn’t add up. We managed to contact the landlord directly through our own sources and discovered that they were completely unaware of the situation. The landlord had been told by the estate agent that we were pulling out due to family issues and could no longer afford the rent. This raises serious concerns about how many people might have been misled or taken advantage of by this company, losing their holding deposits in the process. We strongly suspect this may be a tactic they use to scam tenants, making them back out of deals and keeping their deposits. Be careful when dealing with this estate agent.
