We had an amazing experience in the Azores. We booked the 5 island, self driving package. The planning process was a breeze. Dealing with Azores.com could not have been better. The islands are magical, truly a hidden gem. We went in early April. The weather was a bit challenging but not a deal breaker. The Azaleas were blooming everywhere, but not the famous Hydrangeas (they are everywhere). Those bloom in summer, but we chose to avoid the crowds. Having a rental car on every island was the way to go. All of the rentals and accommodations went seamlessly. The hotels were beautiful, great staff, incredible breakfasts. If we had to do it again, we would avoid Flores, as it's a bit run down (although a beautiful island). We were pretty tired by then with all the flights and changing islands. It would be hard to choose just a few islands. They are all unique and stunning. I think Terceira, Faial and Sao Miguel may be my picks.
