Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3730 ... Firmware Update on 4/27/21. The firmware update prevents the use of the Epson Printer if a 3rd party ink cartridge is installed. The latest firmware update, detects a 3rd party ink cartridge and flags the ink cartridge as being unrecognizable. It directs the owner to replace the 3rd party ink cartridge with an Epson brand cartridge. If the cartridge is not replaced, the printer will not allow access to any printer functionality and the printer can no longer be used. Epson Technical Support indicates that there is no way to bypass the error message and there is no way to remove the firmware update. I escalated to Epson Corporate in California and spoke to Trudy who stated that the only remedy is to use Epson brand ink cartridges. Reference # is 210427-003377. Unfortunately, the firmware update is automatic and my printer is no longer useable. I opened BBB Case Number 15414806. All levels of escalation essentially said the same thing. I hope that this can be pursued legally.
