Went to London for the weekend, myself, my wife and my son, to celebrate my son’s birthday. We went to Hard Rock Cafe at Piccadilly Circus. Upon entering we were told it was a 15 minute wait, and we could browse the store which was fine. 50 minutes later our handheld buzzer hadn’t gone off, and we asked what was going on. They apologised and said we wouldn’t be long, and then 10 minutes later we were seated. The service was fine, although there was quite an initial wait to take our order. The food was pretty good although it wasn’t the warmest, and all three of us pointed that out. My biggest issue, and it’s the reason I wanted to write this review….When the bill came, the was a service charge of £11 added. It wasn’t suggested, optional etc, it was right there on the bill. At no time were we told it was optional, or we could have it removed. It’s not until I googled it and saw people complain and say they had asked for it to be removed. This is an absolutely disgusting practice, and should absolutely not be allowed! By all means prompt for a tip, give an option etc. To just add it to the bill and put people in a position where they either don’t know it can be removed, or are embarrassed and anxious to ask for it to be removed is disgraceful. After this we will never be using hard rock again!
