The ambience and atmosphere were excellent. At last! Carpet and upholstered chairs so you could hear yourself speak. The lighting was just right as was the temperature. The staff were efficient and friendly. All good, until I began to order. ‘Regular’ rice and some complicated alternative that sounded like a meal in itself. I would have had more choice in a takeaway. When my Rogan Josh arrived I was surprised at how small the dish was. It was good but there are a lot of good Rogan Joshes out there. The rice was mushy and tasteless but worst of all it was all luke warm. I sent it back via a very apologetic waitress and waited what seemed like a very long time (considering the place was half empty) for my hot meal to arrive. It did and amazingly it was still Luke warm! I wondered if they’d waited for it to cool down a bit before it arrived and what part of ‘hot’ they didn’t understand? It then arrived and it was hot, at last! But it was delivered rather brusquely by the manager who seemed irritated that I’d dared to complain rather than embarrassed that I’d had to send something back - twice. At £30 for a curry, rice, two chapatis and a glass of wine I felt it was not too expensive but still not good value for money considering I’ve had much better curries from a takeaway at a third if the price. It was my first visit to Masala Zone. It will be my last.
