I rented a van and returned it on time, only to receive a parking penalty nearly a month later for a fine issued the day after the van was returned. The service claimed it was because I didn’t return the van to the designated area, but there were no marked bays for their service, nor any signage indicating reserved areas. The previous hirer parked in the 'wrong' bay before I picked it up, so who would have known it wasn’t suitable? Alongside the parking fine, I received a £15 admin fee for what I believe was an unreasonable charge. They claimed the penalty was from the council, but I pointed out they didn’t inform me in time to appeal, yet they quickly settled it and charged me £15 on top. The company has an agreement with the car park management, so it’s their responsibility for not marking the bays. After I sent pictures as proof, they completely ignored my emails. They have recently added signage, but many hirers have been penalized in the meantime. There’s no contact number for customer service on their website. I strongly advise customers to avoid this company; ever since they were taken over by a profit-driven group, they no longer operate with their original mission to promote responsible urban living. They primarily answer to their shareholders. You can never anticipate what extra charges they may impose.
