A Well Oiled Machine: Ameritex Movers

Excellent at responding quickly when you’ve landed on their site and submitted a quote request (I’m talking immediate, like within minutes), BUT apparently Ameritex is more of a lead-generation service. Like Angie's List, Thumbtack or Homee, Ameritex sub-contracts with local movers. I’m not saying this is necessarily bad! Ameritex does a superlative job at coordinating moves, scheduling, keeping you apprised of your movers' ETA and post-move follow-up, etc. I was also able to reach the person with whom I booked my move (repeatedly) when I’ve called with problems, which was kind of unexpected. But I thought Ameritex employed their movers, which for some reason feels like a different level of accountability and responsibility. The main thing that bugged me was them not telling me that they're a middle-man. As for the aforementioned problem:I engaged Ameritex because they told me in an email that I would receive “3 complimentary wardrobe boxes." Turns out those are only offered in the Houston market, NOT in DALLAS (where I am). It was actually fact that swung my decision pendulum in Ameritex’s favor because I really didn’t want to disassemble and move my commercial rolling rack to accommodate the small amount of clothing I needed to shift between one apartment and the other. The Movers arrived, a tad early—great thing—and we walked the route between the only place their rig (a pick-up truck with an enclosed trailer (tall enough to walk in/out via ramp) could park, being too tall for garage access. "Direct Access Garage" is a wonderful thing until you're moving and then it merely contributes to increased time and expense while movers have to use the elevators. We were ready to go and I asked where the 3 wardrobe boxes were so I could get started on filling them (besides clothing I anticipated putting bedding and pillows in at least one of the boxes). They looked at me dumbfounded, then at each other, then shook their heads and explained, they didn’t have any wardrobe boxes. Since all of the items intended for those oversized, lovely, sturdy wardrobe boxes were yet to be packed, we rescheduled to the following day. I was quickly connected when I called Ameritex, and learned from the lovely representative who answered the phone that the “3 complimentary wardrobe boxes” were a feature only offered in Houston, not in Dallas. She transferred me to the person who facilitated my quote and booking, the one to whom I’d said, “do you know what decided it for me? Those three complimentary wardrobe boxes!”, the one who agreed with me about how handy they’d be for linens and pillows. She looked into it and discovered that unfortunately, logistics had no wardrobe box inventory and it wouldn’t be replenished for several weeks. I had to run out and buy a “Storage closet” at Target and several other items to transport clothing and linens, (cue the hefty trash bags). The additional work and expense aside, I’m writing this review to warn others who—like me—might be influenced by the promise of 3 complimentary wardrobe boxes. If you’re in the Dallas market, that’s a representation Ameritex can not or will not make good on, so beware! The fact that Ameritex farms out the actual moving seems relevant, though the crew that arrived on day two not only had their own wardrobe boxes, but also huge horizontal moving boxes into which all manner of things could be stuffed; boxes that remained filled and unloaded at our new place (extreme efficiency). Truly a professional moving company that made our move more efficient than the guys who came the day before, I learned later that Ameritex wanted to make sure my move would go smoothly after the previous day's debacle and I got a 3-man crew for the price of a 2-men.I'm not sure what the moral of the story is since Ameritex really stepped up and had I not dug a little deeper I might still be unaware that they were the conductor of a vast orchestra of movers. It only now strikes me that maybe I paid more than I would have with a truly local, owner-operator moving company; but being done and focused on settling in ... it's not worth contemplating.

Bad experience

On today I had a move, a 6 min move from one place to another. It started raining really bad in Missouri City and my movers informed me that it was raining heavy and that they were going to stop until the rain calmed down. I said okay but ask if I would still be charged one of the movers told me no. The moving was stopped for about 20mins. Okay they started putting stuff back in the truck once the rain let up. Once we got to my new place my son’s headboard was brought up the stairs by one of the movers. It was cracked through but still intact. I moved the headboard from the wall the mover set it on and this is how it looks now. I was charged for time in which they stopped and also my son’s headboard was broken! I have not went through the other stuff but this is the first thing that stood out. I will be posting more if anything else is damaged!

They truly defied the saying, " You get what you pay for." We were actually given far more than what we paid for. Sincere thanks to Ameritex Movers.
