Review Time
Are you thinking of studying with Learna and checking out the reviews on TrustPilot?First thing you should know, is after students have applied for their course they are provided with a link to TP to review the application process, and the reviews you are reading are in the majority reflecting how easy applicants find the application process. Interestingly, they don’t ask you to review your learning journey with them. So here is how you are taught and how you learn on Learna. I am doing a PGD and there are 6 modules, each split into 6 weeks. Each module has various activities you need to engage in:1) reflective journal - each week you have to write a reflective piece. Here I try and link my learning to how it has helped in my clinical practice and reflect on that. 2) the academic forum. This takes the most of your time. Your route, who changes each module, will pose 3 scenarios a week. You have to discuss the scenario and fully reference it. You are given a few articles for “suggested reading so you know what topics will be covered, then it is up to you to find out more through further reading. You then present your answer. What happens is you’ll get about 6 or 7 students all answering the same question. And ChatGPT is used a lot and students are clearly copy and pasting - they don’t even remove the bold words that ChatGPT is famous for. The tutor will then follow up with forget questions and you reply. You have to reply within the first 24/48 hours or you get a lower grade. Very difficult if you’re working full time and have a family. Some tutors will congratulate students on their amazing answers when all the student has done is screen shot a table from a journal and gosh they might even reference it. Occasionally you’ll get a tutor who will pick you up on referencing etc and these are the best tutors as they are paying attention. 3) module activity - you have an assignment, poster, critical analysis, prevention etc to do. Typical university work here and should feel familiar. 4) end of module exam. This is MCQ based and in my experience some of the questions are unclear and quite complicated with respect to the course content. I personally would prefer some online lectures but some of our tutors will direct you to a YouTube video on a specific topic which replaces the lecturers having to have any online lecture content. There are no work booklets to work through so you can familiarise yourself with key concepts. Some of the suggested reading are outdated journal articles. I’m quite a self motivated high achiever so I can handle this type of teaching method but it is likely like no other online course you have done before. And be prepared for it to consume your time massively. My biggest criticism is how easily the students get away with blatant chat gpt use and the lecturers can do nothing about it.
After the admission immediately received the message for fee deposit both options were available in instalment and complete payment I preferred in instalment and received the payment receipt immediately good experience as already have been during diploma thanks.
The course of Postgraduate Certificate in Occupational Medicine is what I was looking for i.e. online, which fit my schedule. The customer service is good as they responded to my queries. It is 4 stars only because there is no cross exemption for similar subjects done at other university.
