I file a claim using the online Web portal. I have an account in which I used to file the claim. It was filed on 1/8/26 when I called to check the status of the claim on 126. I was told the claim never existed and to resubmit. I resubmit it and called to check the status of the resubmission on 1/28 and was told the claim was never submitted to resubmit. I called again on 130 and was hung up on several times I ended up getting the same claim specialist twice who I refuse to let hang up on me. They placed me on hold and then forward at the call to the main number. I have not been able to speak to a manager or any supervisor every specialist, I spoke to has been unhelpful and resolving or even trying to figure out what’s going on with my claim everyone has insisted that I give them my personal information for social date of birth and then hung up on me
Worst company ever to work with. Wish I had never opened an account with them. Very deceptive. Impossible to actually get money out of account when I need it. Teachers can do much better than to open any kind of account with this company.
I signed up with them when I started working at my current job. I stopped funding my account because I could find a different one and get more in returns. I wanted to close the account and transfer the money to my bank account but was told I’m not allowed to unless I quit or get fired from my current job. Had I known this before I would have never started the account. They do not tell you this when you open the account.
Just after getting my first teaching contract in 2009, my school district assigned AXA Equitable to siphon, I mean invest, a percentage of my earnings. Since then, the stock market has been red hot, and inflation has been high, yet in 2025 when I transferred the account to my own control, I had made a tiny fraction of the average market gain; less than half of the fees AXA collected, and far less than inflation, so I actually lost money. This is partially because I was FAR too conservative in my portfolio choices, but also because of the high fees AXA charges for doing nothing. The "investment advice" they give isn't even as good as the free stuff on YouTube. If it had been, I would have invested more wisely. I'm so glad I took my money out of their hands and into my own. If you don't have the time to actively manage a portfolio, you could buy a basic S&P 500 ETF and let it ride all the way into retirement, saving thousands in fees and compound returns. Letting AXA hold your money is still better than buying naked options or other risky strategies, but if you just buy something safe and managed for you like the QQQ or SPY and hold it for life, you'll be far better off.
This company is the absolute worst. I have been trying to file an accident claim for a year and a half. I mailed in the paperwork. It was conveniently"lost." I've called, my husband has called to no avail. I've emailed the paperwork in at least 4 times. The newest thing is "I don't have any benefits through them." I've had their benefits for almost 2 years. My hr rep. called and got everything straightened out. I resubmitted all of the paperwork. I haven't heard anything so I log into my account. A message flashed across the screen and disappeared. I had to take a screen shot just to read it. It said I don't have benefits. Again. I just went through this a few weeks ago. Now I get to get ahold of my hr again tomorrow to let them know what's going on with this company. I just want to get this settled. They make you jump through hoops to get money you're owed. The amount of phone calls and emails to this company about my claim is insane. There is absolutely no reason for the run around.
My investments with Equitable did very poorly, I lost money on most of them, customer service is not helpful and gives conflicting information. My financial advisor sold me non-publically traded REITS which lost 10s of thousands of dollars and I cannot sell them until there is a "liquidation event" or dump them off to a reseller for a fraction of what I paid. Account fees are unreasonable especially given the financial losses I have suffered. Very difficult to transfer my investments to a different Advisor. Termination fees are high and unreasonable.
Bought my first policies with equitable in 1993 paid them up and they have been covering themselves up till a couple of years ago. They were begging me to take loans out against them saying I had monies to to borrow against. I took small loans out against two of the four and then the shit show began. These people are thieves since the time of removing my money they have slapped all kinds of ridiculous fees on me, interest loans against my own money and on top of that the only way to talk to a human being is to be transferred to a bunch of idiots in the Philippines that neither can understand or the line is so broken they end up repeating themselves. These are dirtbags even my local representative in Jacksonville, Florida Bill Florenze doesn’t pick his phone….supposedly a senior level executive. None of the Customer service Numbers work and these people should be fined for ripping people off.
It took me 10 months to transfer my retirement away from Equitable. Their process to do so is overly challenging by design, and I'm sure many give up along the way, which I think is the point. I kept going, talked to a dozen people at my 3rd party admin, and finally got my money away from them. Their fees are the highest in the industry at 1.75 for the S&P 500 index and 2.5 for their target date fund. To move my money to another company, I was charged a $1,231 withdrawal fee, an administrative charge and an admin fee. Thieves. I chose all my own investments and my advisor did nothing. My Equitable account was zeroed out over two weeks ago, but my new company has yet to receive the funds. Just another way they will do anything to keep your money for longer and make a profit. You do not matter to them. Stay away as if your future depends on it. Because it does.
