Review Time
I signed up for Home Chef excited to try the service, but immediately upon logging in, I realized the meal options were awful.
Unfortunately, the cancellation process is intentionally convoluted and difficult to navigate. Despite my efforts to cancel immediately after signing up, they charged my card anyway.
Avoid, avoid, avoid. If you don't pick meals during their narrow window, they will just charge you for random meals you don't want. Save yourself the hassle and the hidden fees, go with a different company that actually respects its customers' time and money
This is the most insidious online business that I have ever had the displeasure to encounter. First of all in order to look at the menu I was forced to open an account. That was literally the only way that I could look at menu options. Upon discovering That there was nothing on the menu I wanted, I canceled my account immediately. Two days later, there’s an order delivered to my door that I did not approve or request. When I went to home, chef to try to log into my account, I cannot find a login page. The only way it will allow me to login is to use my Google account to do so. This is not how I set up my account. When I clicked on help, all I got was a chat bot who would not even give me an email address to send an email to this company. On top of that I do not even have an email confirmation in my mailbox that I even opened an account. This is a seriously insidious company. I’m not the least bit worried about losing my money, because I’m reporting them to my credit card as fraud. I did not approve this purchase, and I will not pay for it. And I hope Home chef checks these reviews because it’s not the first one I’m leaving!
Dismal customer support and the most disappointing food delivery experience I've ever had. I wish there was an option for zero stars. I registered for this service and attempted to make adjustments on the same day. Out of nowhere, I received an email stating that my order was finalized for the week. When I checked, the changes I had made were not applied; it was just the default meals selected for me. I immediately contacted customer support, but they were unhelpful. They kept directing me back to the terms and conditions of the service. When the meals arrived, they were soggy and lacked flavor. The frozen meals from the grocery store are genuinely better. Given the price, I expected much better service and food quality.
The delivery was originally scheduled for Monday, but tracking indicated it would arrive by the end of day Tuesday instead. This was clearly a mistake, and I couldn't risk consuming food that had been stored for five days in a warehouse or truck. The single large ice pack was already thawing, the vegetables were not cold at all, and the meat seemed very questionable with just one ice pack. I decided to cancel the remaining weeks and requested an immediate refund. I cannot recommend this meal delivery service to anyone!
We've faced ongoing issues with shipping. Almost every package has arrived damaged over the past two months. While the meals themselves weren't always affected, the delivery service used is quite poor. About half the time, we were missing components of the meals (like meats, vegetables, etc.) and often lacked some of the recipes needed to prepare the food. I grew weary of constantly needing to reach out to customer support, so I decided to cancel.
I found the quality of the meals quite disappointing, particularly the proteins. The meats were of low quality. I encountered multiple issues with receiving incorrect dinners or confused protein options. Even when I received the right meals, they seemed subpar. We decided to cancel after several weeks.
I was really looking forward to trying out this meal service. My family has used various meal delivery options over the years, and I enjoy seeing how each one operates differently. The meals appeared appealing in the advertisements and on the website, leading me to believe this could be a great choice. Unfortunately, my initial experience never progressed to tasting the food due to the sign-up and billing procedures. To view actual pricing and determine my weekly expenses, I needed to create an account and provide my credit card information before getting a clear view of the meal costs. I set up what I thought was a temporary configuration (two meals, twice a week) just to check the total and compare it with another service we were using. After seeing the final price, I concluded it wasn't suitable for us and promptly canceled. The timing is crucial: I received the “Welcome” email and the “Cancellation” email just one minute apart. I never revisited the account or placed any orders beyond the brief setup for pricing. Despite this, a complete box of meals arrived at my door, and my card was charged. I had assumed that canceling within a minute of signing up would prevent any order from being processed, especially since I was merely in the “pricing check” phase. Clearly, that was not the situation. I recognize that this may be permitted in the fine print, but the combination of: • requiring a credit card before revealing meaningful pricing, and • treating that step as consent to ship and charge, even upon immediate cancellation, seems unnecessarily unclear and somewhat misleading. It's easy to understand why there are several negative reviews highlighting similar issues. To be fair, the food did look appealing upon arrival; the packaging and presentation matched other premium services we've used. My low rating stems not from the quality of the food but from how the sign-up, pricing transparency, and initial charge were managed. In summary: if you choose to try this meal service, proceed with caution. Be aware that entering your card details and configuring meals could lock in your first order—even if you decide against it right away.
The food was decent. However, canceling the subscription is a frustrating experience; it feels like navigating a maze. I eventually found the cancellation option, but they still sent me another box and charged me after I thought I had canceled. Beware! You definitely don't want to get involved with a service that's so difficult to stop. I assure you.
Received first week of food-meal 1, good, meal 2, good but missing ingredients. Got email with 2nd week of food, and was NOT given the promotion. Went on chat and instead of resolving it, "Shontel" did not care one bit about keeping a new customer and just canceled my account instead of making it right.Do I recommend Home Chef? NO. Shame, too, as I love Ramsey and Half Baked Harvest. But DECEPTIVE promotions and clearly they know it.
