HPPCARES ADU GREAT SUCCESS

Katherine Peoples provided an exceptional experience in managing complex issues, leading me to straightforward resolutions by simplifying the process. Katherine Peoples’s leadership is deserving of national recognition. Payments were made on time, and the HPPCARES staff demonstrated professionalism. My family is immensely grateful for the beautiful ADU that I completed thanks to the efforts of HPPCARES and the exceptional management of this program by Katherine Peoples. Thank you, HPPCARES, and especially Katherine Peoples.

Unpaid for a Full Month's Work - Unprofessional and Unreliable

I worked with Katherine as a remote estimator, starting in June 2025. The initial month went smoothly, and I was paid on time for my work. However, the experience completely changed in July.I spent the entire month of July doing a significant amount of work, including estimating for ADUs and preparing detailed plans for both ADU and garage conversions. As August began, I tried to follow up with her multiple times about payment for the work I completed in July. My calls were frequently ignored, and on the rare occasions she did answer, she said she was "waiting on her payments."Today is August 26th, and I still have not been paid for a full month's worth of labor. The lack of communication and repeated excuses are completely unacceptable. It is unfair and frustrating to put in so much work only to be ghosted when it's time for compensation. This has been a deeply unprofessional and disappointing experience. I would caution anyone against working with her.

Katherine was an excellent speaker

Katherine was an excellent speaker and very informative. I truly appreciated the class she offered and I’m so glad I attended. Honestly, I almost didn’t get up to come, but I’m grateful that I did—it was well worth it!

HPP (REALLY) Cares!

Our family is extremely grateful for HPP Cares and for Katherine Peoples' leadership, willingness to share her wealth of knowledge, and professionalism. This organization is providing invaluable services to communities that have historically been redlined and excluded from homeownership and building real estate portfolios & generational wealth. My mother and I attended a webinar led by Katherine to learn "how to ADU" and thereafter we became CALHFA grant recipients, which was a huge help in offsetting our pre-construction costs. We primarily interacted with Katherine, Nancy Ruiz, and Diana Chan. Anytime we needed guidance in the process or help with a request related to our project, they responded promptly and were so helpful and kind. Our dream has come to fruition and we now have a 1,200 sq ft, two-story ADU that meets the needs of our growing family. The ADU process is definitely not for the faint of heart, but HPP Cares prepared us so that we understood what to expect and how to navigate the process from design & permits, to finance, through construction.I highly recommend this organization and appreciate all that they are doing to help promote homeownership and its preservation in our communities. We can not thank Katherine Peoples and her team enough for all they have done to assist our family.

Business Details

  • HPP CARES CDE is a California nonprofit HUD Approved consumer credit, debt, and housing counseling agency. Our organization understands the challenges the average consumer faces when it comes to being overextended with financial constraints such as debt. Knowing this, we are committed to educating consumers with an emphasis on financial literacy. Our certified HUD Approved housing counselors provide personal assistance through budget counseling, housing counseling, and debt management strategies to lower interest rates and monthly payments. We can address the issues at hand by improving access to credit for low-to-moderate income and historically underserved communities (BIPOC) households through qualified programs that identify and support them. These include but are not limited to affordable housing, homeownership, small business technical assistance, financial literacy, and economic development, ultimately establishing the framework needed for sustaining communities, neighborhoods, and households. It is unfortunate that in 2022 essential skills regarding the management of household finances are lacking in K-12 education. A lack of financial literacy leads many consumers to learn these lessons the hard way, putting them in difficult positions that can be tough to recover from. To further address existing issues, our agency implements the latest multilingual technology bridging the divide to ensure consumers from any background have access to the resources and knowledge they need to make sound decisions and better their financial situations.See more
