Pep is truly a master of his craft. He is an incredible surfer that practices the techniques (often to perfection) that he touches, but is equally just as capable as a teacher / guide of a sport that is very challenging to teach. He takes a very practical approach to surf coaching of focusing time, energy, and effort on the few things an individual should focus on to make meaningful improvement in their surfing vs. taking an approach of critiquing every minor detail to the point that a student just gets completely overwhelmed. This was my second coaching experience with Pep and I learned equally as much, if not more, vs. the first time I worked with Pep on a trip. He is truly motivated by seeing his students progress and takes a very individualistic approach depending on that student’s experience, body composition, and goals vs. a one-size fits all approach. Not only did I feel like my surfing improved over the course of the two 10 days trips I did with Pep coaching me over two years, but he provided me with an action plan that I have and will continue to implement in order to improve each and every time I surf, regardless of the conditions. Lastly, he has a heart of gold and is true pleasure to be around. He will feel like more of a friend then a hired gun when you work with him, which is pretty special!
I had the pleasure of doing a week of advanced surf coaching in Portugal and all I can say is: it was absolutely fantastic! The surf coach is simply great - not only a real pro on the board, but also incredibly competent and motivating as a coach.From the very first day, he adapted exactly to my ability and gave me helpful tips to improve my technique and ride safer waves. His keen eye for detail helped me to spot mistakes that I had never noticed before and small adjustments often brought big improvements.The week was not only super educational, but also incredibly fun. The surf coach manages to find a pleasant balance between professionalism and a relaxed atmosphere, which makes the coaching really unique. Not only did I take my surfing to a new level, but I also had a great time. I can only warmly recommend it!
Just straight up best coaching I ever had. Pepijn explains it super well and really makes you think about what you are actually doing in the water. Great tips and guidance with help of the video analysis. On top of it all, he’s just an overall genuine awesome dude!
Did a surfcoaching week @ Hossegor/vieux boucau in france period end of september. From small to big waves he knew the spots and guided us to the best (uncrowded) line up spots. This knowledge together with the video analysis made the surfing week much more efficient, let alone the great breakfasts and dinners which were prepared by the surfblend crew. Overall perfect surfcoach week which can be extended by the surf academy with the Tigges comunity :)
Coming into this trip I had some injuries and was doubting if I should attend. Pepijn reassured me that even though IF I would not be able to surf the whole week there would still be alot to learn. I'm really grateful Pepijn reassured me before hand, because I was still able to surf all days and I learned a ton. This conversation happened because it feels naturel to open up to Pepijn as he is a great listener and very emphatic.I went from knowing 'how to do' certain movements, to know 'how they should feel', which is a major step in my surf progression. We used video analyses, surfskating and a strong theoretical background to accomplish this. This combination works wonders in my eyes. Also in between sessions or in 'free time' Pepijn was always able to answers questions or think along your worries or challenges.I am really confident I can improve my surfing alot the upcoming months with all the new knowledge I gained from the trip! Thanks Pepijn and I am looking forward to future trips!
The week with Pepijn was very enjoyable and educational. Using video footage, it’s highly effective to identify areas for improvement in your own surfing. Additionally, Pepijn coaches with great patience and empathy, focusing on the small details and explaining them step by step. Through simple exercises, the tips become tangible, without needing to get in the water right away. All in all, a very educational week that I highly recommend!
A second coaching week with Pepijn, and just as great as the first one :). This coaching is especially recommended if you want to analyze your surfing, so you know what’s going well and what steps you need to take next. It’s not so much about catching the most or best waves (which, of course, is also a lot of fun), but more about getting a grip on your progress by setting appropriate goals and working towards them. Pepijn has endless examples and exercises to make the complex things easier, involving things like petting dogs, pizzas and beers, and cardboard boxes ;) I’m always amazed at how quickly Pepijn can describe what you’re doing, what you should be doing, and especially why.On top of that, Pepijn is super easy to get along with, driven to understand you, and passionate about helping you move forward, in whatever way. Comfortably out of your comfort zone, it is safe to be vulnerable. The atmosphere in the group is friendly, open and positive. In short, a fantastic week!
Definitely leaving this coaching trip excited about surfing! I feel the trip was a good balance between working hard on our surfing and having fun. Despite the group setting I got personalized advice and tips (focused on entering waves with more confidence and speed). Some of these I managed to implement during the trip and some I can take with me for practice for later.What is special about these tips is that I understood the logic behind them and so got some tools from Pepijn I can help myself with in the future as well.He also created an accepting and relaxed environment in which it felt safe to make mistakes and then work on them. This was really important for fast and effective learning. He’s been a great host too, adjusting the weekly programme to the group’s needs and keeping it really fun. Can’t wait for the next trip!
Coaching by Pepijn is something else. I have had surf coaching more often, but with Pepijn it is something else. Not only do you feel his burning passion, which made me even more stoked. He also knows so much about things that others coaches often see as details, but that are actually really important. He is very precise in his advice, it is adapted to your personal needs so that you do not get overwhelmed by information, and know exactly what your action point are, for now. Lastly, in my opinion the best part, his coaching sessions are not only helpful during the session itself, but during the session I had after getting coaching, when I was by myself, I vividly saw the video images, and Pepijn advice and tips going trough my head, and I really felt the difference, which was for me the "wip/wap" during the take off/pop op, so where your board is positioned in the wave! 10/10 would recommend doing this when you love surfing and want to be better
It was a very good surf coaching session where we focussed on 1/2 specific points to improve and I got immediate feedback to take on to the next wave. Afterwards during the video analysis it was very clear what went well and what needed improving. With extra feedback on that, I am confident I will put extra focus on those points the next time in the water. Pepijn gives you confidence and overall good vibes.
