It said this about this smart score. "IXL's SmartScore is a dynamic measure of progress towards mastery, rather than a percentage grade. It tracks your skill level as you tackle progressively more difficult questions. Consistently answer questions correctly to reach excellence (90), or conquer the Challenge Zone to achieve mastery (100)!" but for some reson if you get a question wrong it reduces your smart score by a lot and if you get one right it you get like 3 points added to your smart score and no matter how much time or questions done you have to get 100% to pass but its hard becuse if you get a question wrong your back at 30% so ixl's smartscore is not a dynamic measure of progress towards mastery it a punishment system where if you get something wrong your back at 24%
I was sitting there answering a question with 10.5, but the screen indicated I was wrong, stating the correct answer was 10.50. I submitted the same thing! .5 and .50 are essentially the same! It took me five questions just to recover the points lost from that one zero! Incidents like this occur frequently for students. This learning tool is not effective; it's quite disappointing.
I encountered two versions of a lesson: "2 Step Equations" and "2 Step Equations (Word Problems)". While working on the first one, I was faced with word problems, which was confusing since it wasn't the intended lesson. However, the main issue for me is the grading system, which feels overly strict and lacks motivation. Overall, it's quite dull. I found another platform to be more effective!
I had to complete some lessons and found two versions for one topic: "2 Step Equations" and "2 Step Equations (Word Problems)". I was working on the first one, but it included word problems, which was confusing. However, the main issue for me is the grading system; it feels overly strict and discouraging. Overall, it's quite dull. There are definitely better options available!
Whether you're an educator seeking tools for students or someone studying independently, steer clear of this platform. The system is designed to penalize with a low gain and high loss scoring method, leading to burnout and self-doubt about learning abilities. The explanations provided are vague and hard to understand. If you’re currently using it, I recommend canceling your subscription immediately and remember that struggling to grasp concepts is not a reflection of your intelligence.
I think many are being overly critical of this service. It's not as bad as people say, and many reviews come from younger users. As a minor myself, I don’t find it that difficult, and some reviews seem to stem from kids who aren't putting in the effort.
I'm not focusing on the mechanics, but the ads are misleading! Both video and banner ads claim to make screen time fun, but the experience feels poorly designed. They assert that students will be eager for rewards, but who wants to spend countless hours for a trivial profile option? They falsely promote good reviews, while the reality is that many users dislike it, mainly due to the flawed scoring system.
