I spent some time researching how to start learning Chinese from absolute zero, even consulting multiple sources (including AI) to compare methods. Mandarin Blueprint kept coming up again and again. I finally jumped in — and it’s honestly surpassed the hype. The approach is clever, intuitive, and weirdly addictive. For the first time, learning characters actually feels fun and doable. I would give 6 stars if i could.. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This course is an outstanding resource for learning the Chinese language through its characters. At first, I had my doubts, but the method introduced (utilizing a memory palace technique for character learning) is incredibly effective and efficient. After years of inconsistent efforts in learning Chinese, this program was the best "investment" I've made in my language journey, both in terms of time and money. Alongside the main course, I have also explored additional offerings (such as Pronunciation Mastery, Mandarin Speaking Kickstarter, and The Phrase Vault). Given how distinct Chinese is from European languages, some patience is necessary to achieve fluency and the ability to converse, yet the teaching approach and course material are truly exceptional. As of this review, I am at level 37 of the program after approximately 50 days of dedicated study, having learned around 600 characters. You can also try the Lite version for free (covering about 260 characters) to see if this method suits you.
The hanzi movie method is effective. I was particularly eager to discover a new memory technique. We often hear about concepts like the memory palace and are curious about their functionality. This approach creates numerous associations with a character, significantly increasing the likelihood of retention compared to simple memorization.
I’ve been on a journey to learn Chinese since 2018, experimenting with various traditional methods like in-person classes, HSK books, and apps. While those methods had their merits, my progress often stalled, leaving me frustrated and not much further than when I began. Earlier this year, I stumbled upon some YouTube videos that reignited my motivation. Their free content, particularly the pronunciation guide, is outstanding and serves as a generous resource. Curious, I explored their website and discovered that the first 20 levels of their course were free. With nothing to lose, I decided to give it a shot. Initially, the method felt a bit daunting and even absurd, but I learned to trust the process. After mastering the first 50 characters, I experienced something new: I could read, write, and, most importantly, easily remember the pronunciation and correct tone. This course is exceptional for character learning and reading, but it offers so much more. The entire course is well-structured and filled with valuable content. There’s a comprehensive onboarding course that clearly outlines how to learn, with specific steps and time recommendations, eliminating any confusion. The guided approach through the first ~13 levels transitions smoothly into more independent learning. The platform operates on a specific system and includes an SRS flashcard feature. The only drawback is that it requires an internet connection, which may not suit everyone. However, for most learners, this isn’t a significant issue, and it’s still more user-friendly than other options. They are also developing an app for sentence listening and practice exercises, which is promising. I’ve completed the free section and transitioned to the paid course, which is worth every cent. If you try the free levels, I’m confident you’ll be impressed. The depth and attention to detail in this course are unparalleled, and the community is fantastic as well. It has been incredibly rewarding to communicate more effectively with my wife, her family, and my Chinese colleagues at work. It has opened up opportunities for meaningful conversations that I couldn't have had before. In summary, this is an outstanding program. The founders genuinely care about helping people learn Chinese.
