Our small sewage treatment plant overfilled due to failure of the sump pump on 2nd March 2026. I contacted Mayglothling (who had been emptying the tank regularly for some years) and asked for some urgent assistance. They agreed to come and empty the tank the next day and to also send an "Engineer" to assess the problem. As this was an urgent call-out, they charged me (on top of the £285 for emptying the Tank), a £198 "emergency" call-out fee and £288 for the Engineer's visit - all totalling £711.00.
The emptying went smoothly but the Engineer was on site for a maximum of 30 minutes, did nothing except attempt to loosen the outflow pipe from the pump and left, promising to send a list of required works to HQ.
In the meantime, the tank filled up again within 8 hours and I had to hire a petrol-powered pump to keep the unit from overflowing again so £285 wasted and arguably, not much value for money for the Engineer.
On the 6th March, I received an un-totalled "quote" from Mayglothling for effecting the remedial works and including a sum of £2,400 for re-lining the transfer pipe (no more than 60cm in length). I asked for a costed breakdown of this unusually expensive element of the "quote" but Mayglothling said "we can't do that" and added that the absence of a proper total was that unexpected works might be incurred. So it was an open-ended estimate rather than a quote then.....
Adding up all the elements in Mayglothling's estimate, this totalled £3,865 + vat.
I had had enough by this stage and contacted another firm who billed me only £175 + vat for sending out a very competent engineer within 12 hours of me calling them and subsequently provided me with a quote of £1,170 + vat for doing the same repairs as Mayglothling had quoted for and at 30% of the price.
My strong advice is DO NOT USE MAYGLOTHLING. In my opinion, they fall way short of any acceptable level of competence, are hugely expensive and their Administration is utterly appalling.

My septic tank system requires quite a powerful submersible pump to raise the waste water up to the level of the soakaway. Mayglothing installed a new pump only six months ago which inexplicably has failed. Response to the issue ( which is not really their fault )has been exemplary. With frequent visits being made to pump out the system free of charge, while in new pump is awaited from the suppliers. I am very impressed with the high level,of customer service.
So sad to have to write this review, but have been using this company for over 20 years but the last 7 or 8 years have been awful. The engineers and the waste collection guys are amazing BUT the admin staff are terrible. I have had my waste collection cancelled, rebooked, cancelled and rebooked nearly every year because, the lorry broke down or something else. This year despite ringing twice the day before to confirm all ok, as I needed to book time off work to be there, they still cancelled, because the lorry broke down again whilst leaving the yard.
Excellent 5* customer care & service - ALL the team including the drivers are always pleasure to deal with - Especially in emergency situations. Going above and beyond to help & get the answers the customer needs - gosh…Humans talking to humans who would have thought of that concept😉🤣 & even phoning the client back on the same day!!!! Brilliant & Thank you !
If i could rate 0 stars i would. When booking to empy our 2 water treatment plants i asked for a ring an hour prior as these are at our holiday lodges. Not only did i not receive a call but the driver emptied only one treatment plant and proceeded to leave media ( small balls that float in the tank to stimulate oxygen in the sewage) on the drive where guests/ children walk. They also then billed me for emptying both tanks even the second tank is in a locked area. After backwards and forwards emails iv been billed correctly but 3 days i asked hgor a ring back from the manager which has been ignored. We always try yo use local companies but i am affraid this is the lsst straw. Avoid !!!
Very poor customer service over 20 years. Previously asked to be notified when they came to service or empty our biotec plant, but more often than not, the didnt. Tank emptied in January but the driver had no clue how to do this properly. He even asked my wife if it was via the manhole next to the tank! He also did not empty the tank fully. The February annual service was very thorough, by a good engineer who took me through some issues. Then 4 months to come and do some critical extra maintenance work after giving a quote. They did notify me so I was able to check their hours. They then over billed me by 3 hours plus 3 items they did not replace. It took me 3 weeks to get any response from them, eventually they issued a credit note of £650 for the amount overcharged. No explanation of how or why this significant overcharging happened, so I am left wondering to be honest.
Expensive and incompetent - an unhealthy combination. I won't be using Mayglothling again. As usual, I've had to pester Mayglothling for weeks for a confirmed date for a sewage collection. They seem unable to operate a diary... or a map: they've been coming here for 15 years and were due today (confirmed only yesterday evening), but the driver reported to the office that he needed 4WD to get down our drive. It's tarmacked. I've no idea where he went but clearly not to our house. Why didn't he try calling me? It's not rocket science, is it?I've now gone elsewhere: booked online in a few minutes; firm commitment to a date; about 60% of the cost of Mayglothling. Makes me wonder why I kept them on so long.
We have used Mayglothling a number of times in the past for Septic Tank drainage and once again had excellent communications, with a collection date promptly provided. There was some misunderstanding by the driver but the issue was quickly resolved by the company: they clearly take customer relations seriously and value their good name.
A very average experience with Mayglothling with some concerning customer service! Was a customer for a few years, in general, the onsite team are very friendly and do a good job. However, there were multiple times where jobs were delayed at the last minute due to bad planning (more pipes needed etc). The final straw for ceasing services with them was when they gave out details regarding my property and septic tank to a prospective house buyer without my consent. The buyer used incorrect details about my whereabouts, which the office team did not verify with me, and proceeded to give out details regarding my account. The follow up handling of this was also terrible, no accountability, just demanding invoices be paid. On this basis, I would not recommend Maglothling, purely based on their integrity and customer service.
