Hello everyone! My name is Lucas Rezende, and I am a final-year brazilian medical student who joined Meta Academy about three years ago. When I started, I had absolutely no background in research. I didn’t know how to read papers, design studies, or write manuscripts. Everything I’ve achieved in research started within this program.
One of the most valuable aspects of Meta Academy was the network. All of my academic connections were built through the course, allowing me to work directly with professors from institutions such as the University of Groningen, the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and the Mayo Clinic. The mentorship and exposure to high-level research were truly exceptional.
The Expert Program was a turning point for me. It gave me the skills and confidence to not only participate in projects but to collaborate with senior authors and take on leadership roles in research.
So far, I have published 11 peer-reviewed papers and contributed to 19 congress presentations worldwide. I also had the privilege of presenting at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Lisbon, with both moderated and poster presentations.
Overall, Meta Academy completely changed my trajectory. It provided the foundation, mentorship, and opportunities I needed to grow from zero experience into a productive researcher. I highly recommend it to anyone serious about building a strong academic career.
I joined the r/MetaAnalysisAcademy with a clear but limited goal. I wanted to strengthen my understanding of systematic reviews because I often found gaps between reading evidence and actually interpreting it with confidence. What I did not anticipate was how deeply the process would reshape the way I approach research and clinical questions.
The learning phase was rigorous and, at times, uncomfortable. Moving from passive reading to active evidence synthesis required precision. I worked through screening protocols, data extraction, risk of bias assessment, and statistical analysis using RevMan, SPSS, and R. Each step demanded attention to detail and consistency. Over time, this structured repetition translated into clarity. Concepts that initially felt technical gradually became part of routine thinking, especially when dealing with heterogeneity, effect sizes, and study quality.
This training directly translated into tangible academic output. I contributed to multiple systematic reviews and meta-analyses across areas such as oral oncology and periodontal therapeutics, leading to more than ten publications in indexed journals . More importantly, I developed the ability to critically construct evidence rather than just consume it. This shift also opened opportunities to teach and mentor. I have since trained over a thousand learners across different countries in research methodology and meta-analysis, which further refined my own understanding .
The broader impact has been on my career direction. This experience played a significant role in strengthening my academic profile, contributing to my selection as a Sommer Scholar for an MPH in Epidemiology. It also aligned my clinical training in periodontology with a stronger focus on evidence-based and translational research. I now approach clinical and public health questions with a structured analytical framework, where research is not an additional task but an integral part of practice.
Looking back, the most valuable outcome was not just learning a method, but developing a disciplined way of thinking grounded in evidence.
I am currently a General Surgery resident in the USA and Meta-Analysis Academy was a game-changer in my career! There is a clear before and after the course in my CV. There is so much more to the course than learning how to do a meta-analysis from scratch to publication in high impact journals: networking with other students, connecting to new mentors, traveling to conferences, development of presentation skills, personal growth, motivational boost in academic aspirations, and the list goes on!
I've presented posters/oral presentations in several international conferences in the USA since I completed the Meta-analysis academy course in 2024: SAGES, ASCRS, ACS, and ASC. I also had over 8 manuscripts published in PUBMED-indexed journals.
I give my highest recommendations to the Meta-analysis Academy course!
I joined MA Academy in September 2024, and since then it has played a pivotal role in shaping my research journey. The program offers structured, hands-on mentorship that goes beyond theory and focuses on producing publishable, methodologically sound work. Through the MA Academy, I have contributed to and published research across diverse clinical areas, including appendicitis-related outcomes and advanced critical care topics such as ECMO. The emphasis on critical appraisal, statistical rigor, and academic writing has been invaluable and directly applicable to real-world research and publication. I would highly recommend MA Academy to any medical student or clinician seeking serious training in clinical research.
I have always been drawn to research as an integral part of my medical career. At a certain stage of this journey, I recognized the need to further develop methodological and analytical skills to support a project led by my research group, which had been awarded by the Brazilian Ministry of Health. This led me to pursue specialized training, during which I enrolled in a meta-analysis course taught by Dr. Rhanderson. The course provided a clear, rigorous, and in-depth understanding of the methodology, highly qualified network and comprehensive learning method with precise pathway. Since then, I have been able to maintain consistent and meaningful scientific output within my area of expertise.
I was part of the very first cohort of Meta-analysis Academy. I had always wanted to publish research but honestly had no idea where to start or how to turn an idea into a real study. Even after graduating from the best medical school in Brazil (FMUSP), my practical research skills were pretty basic.
Professor Rhanderson and his team have a unique way of making complex concepts simple and doable. The course is very well structured and, step by step, you actually learn how to design, run, and publish a meta-analysis. On top of that, the academy offers an outstanding network, connecting you with respected physicians and researchers from all over the world, which opens doors to collaboration you simply wouldn’t have otherwise.
What really sets the program apart is the people. Professor Rhanderson himself and his team are incredibly accessible, competent, and professional. They are always available to answer questions, give feedback, and genuinely help you move forward.
Because of this training, over the last three years I’ve published more than 20 papers in reputable journals and presented at multiple scientific meetings. That kind of productivity felt impossible before joining the academy.
I recommend Meta-analysis Academy without hesitation. If you’re a medical student or resident who wants to get into research but feels lost, this program can truly take you from zero to hero.
One of the best decisions I made was joining the Meta-Analysis Academy. The program walks you through each step of conducting a meta-analysis in a clear, in-depth, and practical way, and by the end, you truly feel equipped to conduct one independently. The mentorship program is the cherry on top! Dr. Cardoso and his team are incredibly receptive, supportive, and always readily available to help and guide you throughout the process. I was able to come up with viable, impactful ideas and presented at multiple well-known conferences with manuscripts currently in progress. If you’re looking for a real push in your academic career(whether you are a medical student applying for residency, resident aiming for a competitive fellowship, a fellow or even an attending) and want to independently conduct high-quality research, this is the program to enroll in. Truly a game changer!

Meta analysis academy provided the tools that I needed as a Clinical Faculty without funding, research grant, to publish meaningful research publish in high Impact Journals like diabetes care. Since I took the course, I have been a very productive researcher with several papers published in 2025, several under review and several underway.
A highly trustworthy academy with outstanding training in meta-analysis and systematic reviews. Young, dynamic experts with impressive publishing experience and excellent teaching skills. Great place to learn and connect with motivated researchers worldwide.
