Oldhams packed and stored our household belongings for four years whilst we lived abroad. Unfortunately, when our items were delivered back to us last month by them, many were found to be mouldy, including a mattress, two sofas, clothing, lampshades and kitchen items.
We notified Oldhams by email once it became clear how many items were damaged and the cost involved. Their response was that they had “no idea” how the mould could have occurred and suggested the items must have been damp before collection. This is unreasonable, as all items were in daily use in our modern well-ventilated home prior to removal.
When we asked about compensation, we were told we were outside their seven day window, despite notifying them within seven working days and within a 7×24 hour period (items were delivered Thursday lunchtime and we had emailed them with our concerns the following Thursday morning). They have not once phoned us to discuss the matter, despite us suggesting this would help.
As long-standing customers (15 years), we are extremely disappointed with the recent level of service and lack of accountability. We also asked whether they could at least collect and dispose of the mould damaged sofa as a goodwill gesture, but this request was ignored, leaving us to arrange and pay for disposal ourselves.
The situation has caused significant inconvenience and expense to us. We were delayed moving back into our home due to having no usable bed, and we are currently sitting on deckchairs while waiting for a replacement sofa. After being loyal customers for years, we expected a more supportive approach. In our experience, their insurance and customer service offer no real support when things go wrong.

Our experience with Oldhams was fabulous- from our initial consultation with Stefan, navigating multiple delays and changes in dates with the help of Amore, to the day of our actual move, when James and Darren worked tirelessly to load and unload everything (including all my plants!). Professional from start to finish. Such a brilliant hard working team. We recently moved house with Oldhams and their level of service was excellent throughout. All our belongings were treated with utmost care & respect during the packing & moving process. We've had no breakages, all the boxes were labelled and the speed at which they worked was phenomenal. Special thanks to the guys who moved us - Wal, John, Jim, Stef and Matt. Great guys who went above and beyond for us and a pleasure to have around.
Great service from start to finish. Team were excellent, took care and were very helpful. The service started with a visit from the assessor. Several visits for boxes, tapes and paper, could have as much as we wanted, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended
Oldhams projects itself as a quality service provider; the reality we found is completely different. The guys who actually do the work and stored part of our home contents, are prone to making mistakes such that in our experience you are likely to have some things damaged. Unless you take out additonal insurance you are not likely to be covered and just be faced with denials of any responsibility.
April 2022Oldhams men packed up my home it went into storage & was delivered to my new home in June 2023, bearing in mind I am on my own & at the time had my arm in plaster,consequently it has taken a while for me to get sorted,I had numerous calls to Paul Thurston,telling him of things that are missing,ie,Oil lamp,5 Silver Antique Handbags,Zeiss Binoculars,CannonCamera,Radio Alarm Clock,Teapots, 6 Saucers 1 cup & 6 small milk Churns ( matching a coffee set) & numerous Kitchen things, & Bathroom items,When speaking to him he said “ it sounds like 2 boxes are missing “ I was also left with disposing of all boxes,yes they did refund the deposit.Needless to say I am devastated at my precious items missing, I was in my home the whole time things were being packed & the men were courteous & friendly ,SO what has happened it leaves a bad taste, someone knows !!!! have they gone to someone else or ???
Outstanding service from beginning to end. From the initial contact with the office to book visit for a quote to collecting our empty boxes at the end.
