The website and study login are incredibly frustrating, making the application process a challenge, and obtaining any assistance seems out of reach. I decided to withdraw from my course before it even began because dealing with these issues felt overwhelming. I'd much prefer attending an in-person university.

The resources, website are great. What really lets the ou down is the quality of the tutoring. Some tutors are truly dire. I had a dreadful one for my last module and ended up with a 2:2 as a result. Spanish modules had been great with great tutors but the English language ones not so much. The subject is very subjective and you can score badly. I went from 83 to 58 from start to finish. The last module traumatised me and I still really haven't gotten offer being marked so harshly, as evidenced by the fact i am writing this 6 months later! I think as the tutor knew i already had a degree i was marked more harshly. My advice is do NOT do an arts course with the Ou . Any subjectivity in the subject at all and you will end up in conflict with tutor or getting bonkers marks. If it is Maths or Science go ahead, there is always a right answer! I felt utterly demoralised after I did the degree, I dont regret doing it as I learnt a lot but I could have done without being made to feel bad by a few arrogant tutors.

Ive been with the open university for…

Ive been with the open university for almost 2 years i think roughly give or take, at first i thought it was ok but then i realised because of the lack of support it started to take a toll on my mental health. They just cancelled my module apparently because i forgot to reapply for my last module which i did, as im not use to school stuff as a mature student. Ive basically finished my final module that they have cancelled but now they are asking for a full years tuition fee and student finance and myself are confused to what they are talking about as student finance has already paid them for a 3rd of the year anyway. I was about to leave anyway as you cant even get maintenance loan when your with these guys, i wouldn't recommend anyone go here just go to a brick and water university to save yourself stress and the support YOU WILL NEED.

I studied for my bachelor of laws degree with honours here over 4 years.Excellent level of learning and support available.I thoroughly enjoyed my time studying with The Open University and would highly recommend anyone who wants to learn but maybe doesn't have an opportunity to go to a physical on site campus.

Process to pay tuition fees is a nightmare

I am a Young Applicant. To pay my tuition fees, I need to give them my details via a phone call. It's been 3 days I am calling - totaling over 3 hours of international calls and no one picks. Response to emails is snailish. Unsure what to do as there is no option to chat with the uni.

I have a degree in Politics, Philosophy, & Economics

I have a degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from the OU. No employers recognise or even care that its on my CV. It feels like its a scam with no legitmate credentials. Recently I have received a rejection email from Bauer Media claiming I dont have a relevant degree, when the OU explicitly said journalism was a career path for this degree. It isnt. This was a complete waste of 5 years and I feel robbed.

Achieved a first class honours studying with the OU. All while working full time - the flexibility is great. The tutors I had over 6 years (except 1) were all fabulous. The module materials are easy to navigate. You can attend in person or do your tutorials online. Better than going to a traditional university in my opinion.

This is how the Open University Treats International Students from Protected Minority Groups

I have been enrolled at the Open University and have paid all required fees for four courses. However, while I am currently engaged in litigation concerning what I consider to be an ongoing and unjust campaign or a 'witch hunt' against me conducted by certain ACOs, senior staff members, and directors since 2023; my student records have been removed from my OU student hub. These include my academic records, qualifications, and stored documents. This action appears to be an attempt to silence my voice and facilitate my removal - to get rid of me - from this decadent university rather than address the matter fairly and transparently. Such conduct raises serious concerns about institutional integrity and due process. It also reflects a troubling pattern of ill-treatment toward students, particularly foreign students from Arabic or Muslim backgrounds, when they challenge harsh, non-compliant, or improperly made decisions by dishonest staff members whose actions warrant closer scrutiny.
