I decided to have LASIK eye surgery with Optimax after being recommended by a friend. I had my first consultation with Optimax Glasgow in November 2025 and underwent LASIK surgery in mid-January 2026. The initial consultations and reviews were handled by Diana, Nicola, Lauren, and Larraine, who were all excellent and provided me with all the information needed to make the final decision to proceed with the surgery.
My main reason for getting LASIK was my eyes becoming intolerant to eye contacts due to developing a slight dry eye later in life, which I thought might also prevent me from receiving LASIK. The staff at Optimax listened to my concerns and even offered me additional appointments prior to the surgery to have a deeper look at my dry eye—at no extra cost to myself. With their advice, such as using drops and hot compresses, I managed to improve my dry eye prior to the surgery.
Surgery was handled by Mr. Malcolm Samuel and his team, who were also excellent. On surgery day, Mr. Samuel took extra time to account for my unique deep-set eyes structure, which I greatly appreciated and helped to calm my nerves before and during the surgery. I’m unsure of the names of the other members of his team, but I’m also very grateful to all of them.
I’m very pleased with the results from the surgery. I went from having a -5.00 prescription in both eyes to having 20/20 vision. I’m very thankful to all the members of Optimax in Glasgow, including those whose names I can’t remember. I recommend Optimax particularly to those who are worried about dry eye or their complex eye structure.
From the consultation through to treatment, I've been so happy and impressed with the service I've received from Optimax. All the staff are lovely, welcoming and happy to chat and answer all questions you might have. It feels super relaxed in the Cardiff branch, with free tea and coffee. It genuinely feels like you're part of something special there. On the day of my surgery, I found out that they book in a few people at a time so that you have people going through the same thing as you to chat to while you're waiting. I was really nervous at first, mainly because of the YouTube videos I made the mistake of watching (the algorithm likes to scare you for some reason) but found that having other people in the same position as me really helpful and comforting. I went there by myself but didn't feel alone, and got a taxi back home, which the staff were happy to help with if I needed it. The surgery itself was fine - uncomfortable when the suction/pressure is applied to each eye to do the first part of the procedure but this doesn't last long. I was in there for maybe 10 minutes and came out being able to see immediately, all be it a bit hazy and shaky, so the staff got me a delicious hot chocolate which was lovely.The worst part was feeling like I was chopping onions in the taxi home - burning and stinging and streaming eyes, which made me want to keep them shut, but I knew that was normal and my taxi driver was super lovely so I felt safe. I took painkillers, put in the numbing drops provided and had a nap when I got home. When I woke up the stinging was gone. I was able to watch TV with my sunglasses on, and had a lovely relaxed evening. The next day I came in for a check up, wasn't in there very long but was told I can drive and have 20/20 vision. My right eye has more bruising than the left and feels a little sore but that's completely normal too. I'm just amazed that I can see so well already, and it's not been 24 hours! Thank you to the staff and Juan (surgeon) - I'm over the moon with the results.For anyone reading this - do your research and get to know what the procedure involves so you're prepared, avoid the "it ruined my life" videos because you won't be accepted for surgery if you're not suitable and they are VERY thorough about this (I had dry eyes which improved with treatment, so was rejected at first but then was approved when my eyes were healthier), and don't hesitate to choose Optimax for your surgery. There's no pain during the procedure, and afterwards just napping with some numbing drops will sort you out. I've read and been told by many people they'd have it done again in a heartbeat. I now know what they mean - it's nowhere near as unpleasant or uncomfortable as I expected, and can't emphasise enough how amazing the service has been at Optimax.
Felt at ease as soon as I’d had my initial consultation and knew I wanted to go ahead. I’m -3.5 in both eyes and have worn contact lenses and glasses for the last 20+ years. I’m currently 34 and had my procedure done yesterday and I can already say it’s changed my life. I had the procedure at 4pm yesterday, I was in there for no longer than 15minutes having the actual procedure and by 8pm I could see so clearly. Underwent LASIK at the London Finchley Road branch (07/02) after my consultation and pre-checks at Milton Keynes. Dr Jan and the team here were fantastic, very reassuring and professional. Did not feel rushed at all, and felt fully in control. I am incredibly grateful to share that I have better than 20/20 vision, something I’d never have thought was possible. Would highly recommend.
I had mono vision laser and after 1 day the result is fantastic, I couldnt read a number plate yesterday, today I can read the ingredients on a packet. The procedure took less than 10 minutes, only thing I felt was pressure when clamps went on but that was just seconds and felt like someone gently pushing your eye through your eyelid. The 3 hours after were the worst of it which felt like peeling strong onions, but they give you drops for this, putting one drop in when it starts, stops it straight away. I wasnt uncomfortable at all after that. I can not thank cardiff enough! the staff were so nice and welcoming. My surgeon Dr Morande explained everything and answered everything i asked. There was no sales pitch and I didn't feel pressured like optical express. Brilliant! can't praise them highly enough
As someone whose number one fear growing up was surgery and hospitals, I’m very happy that I chose Optimax to fulfil my dream of finally being glasses-free. Every staff member I interacted with through the way was helpful, understanding, and patient. They all ensured that I had full knowledge of both the surgery and aftercare, and answered all my questions clearly. The actual surgery itself was very quick and as soon as its finished it doesn’t even become a second thought. It was completely pain free and I didn’t feel the laser at all, I wouldn’t have even known the laser was on if the staff didn’t announce it. The suction cup part is uncomfortable and there’s no way to get around it, but I’m grateful the surgery team was communicative with me and did it all errorless. The only thing that caught me by surprise was how dry my eyes became in the first 3 hours after the surgery, but a quick 2 hour nap completely fixed it for me and I could open my eyes completely. I also feel the need to mention how fair the pricing is. Without naming other clinics I also had my consultation in, Optimax was by far the most transparent and fair with the price offered to me - which was more than half of what other clinics wanted to charge me for the same procedure. Whilst I assumed at first that the fairer pricing might result in a lower quality service, I’m happy to say that wasn’t the case at all and there’s honestly little they could have done better throughout everything. Every single person at Optimax Finchley Road is so lovely, helpful, informative and caring. They are so welcoming, understanding when you’re nervous and explain everything perfectly. It’s so reassuring that so many of the staff have been through the same/similar treatment and are happy to discuss it from a personal point of view too. Thank you for everything! Everyone did their best to help me wherever possible and to calm me down when I was nervous too. What a wonderful place!
I had mono focal lens replacement Surgery at Cardiff Optimax.A professional service from initial consultation right through to surgery and after care appointment. My surgeon was Mr Jutley who was courteous, friendly and professional throughout.I would recommend this company and Mr Jutley. It’s been four days since my procedure and I am writing this review glasses free. I guess that’s great proof of success!
