I’ve recently passed my driving test thanks to my fantastic driving instructor. His calm demeanor, clear explanations, and ongoing support made a significant impact. He emphasizes safe driving and building confidence, not just passing the exam. I highly recommend him.
I took a long time researching and sifting through myriad driving instructors in my town - the sheer amount to choose from is overwhelming. I am so happy that I did my due diligence and decided on picking Peter’s school for an intensive course.
He is honest, fair, upfront and teaches you to a high standard. He combines old school verbal instructions backed up with tech (cameras, video, and iPads) to show you the fundamentals of everything. This approach allows him to show you via video or on the tablet things you did correctly or incorrectly, and explain and revisit things before you try again. This combines two types of learning, learning “by doing” and learning “by showing”. Then he drills you over and over again until you learn through muscle memory.
From my impressions, due to his long experience teaching driving he has an intuitive knack for honing in on exactly what you don’t understand (before you even realise it!) and shifting lessons to focus on this bits until you grasp it, before moving onto other tasks. UK driving is complicated and not easy - but after a good amount of instruction it now feels intuitive to me.
I moved to the UK from a “drive on the right” country 15 years ago, and hadn’t driven at all in over 25 years. I hired Peter for an initial 24 intensive course and I came near to passing the stringent UK exam on the first try. After that, he was expert in honing in where I fell short on my first attempt and structured a couple follow up lessons so I could understand why I didn’t pass the first time, and very quickly I passed the exam on my second try.
What is great about Peter, is that without you knowing it, he’s actually teaching you and holding you to a higher standard than what you can expect on the actual DVSA exam. When you can go through all the scenarios he throws at you on the road, the actual driving exam seems quite simple - he’s been doing this a long time and knows so much about driving, he’s a true expert.
He is thorough, patient, kind, and in general a pleasure to be around and chat whilst learning. He is easy to communicate with and replies quickly to any questions or concerns you may have via WhatsApp. He goes above and beyond - there was a point where we were both on holiday, a full 16 time zones apart, and efficiently sorting out lessons to take place a month ahead of time!
There are no shortcuts with Peter and he won’t BS you, and you have input into how you like your lessons to be structured. The communication style is a two-way street. The way he explains things are intuitive, and he also backs it up with tech on the iPad - something I found really useful as it reminds you of things you study for your theory exam.
I cannot recommend Bellamy’s Driving School enough. I went from someone who hasn’t driven in decades in a foreign country to having a full UK driving license due to his expert tutelage.
I rarely write reviews for any product or service, it really has to stand out to be worth my time. Finding a great driving instructor can be a minefield - so I hope if you choose Bellamy’s driving school that can save you a lot of headache and anxiety.
Without Peter’s help, I wouldn’t be here almost aged 50 with a shiny new UK driver’s license!
Peter is an outstanding driving instructor, incredibly patient and approachable. I participated in the Young Driver's experience prior to starting full lessons at 17. I successfully passed with only four minor faults and am excited to begin driving.
