Review Time
I called for assistance via Rescue My Car for a non-starting engine. The contractor, R&K Smart Services Ltd (Coventry Vehicle Recovery), immediately claimed my "engine was gone" or had timing issues without a proper diagnostic. Despite my suggestion that it was just the battery, the driver was adamant that a jump-start wouldn't work.
When a jump-start did turn the engine, he then changed his story to "spark plugs" and pressured me to take it to a specific garage in Southam for a £160 service he claimed I needed immediately. Most alarmingly, when I explained the car’s MOT expired at midnight—meaning I could not legally drive it on Saturday—he repeatedly encouraged me to drive it illegally anyway.
I later had a Halfords technician replace the battery (which was the original from 2012), and the car now runs perfectly. The "failed engine" diagnosis was entirely false. This felt like a clear attempt to solicit commission for a partner garage by providing a fake diagnosis and unsafe legal advice. Avoid this contractor.
I didn't receive a reminder for auto renewal, which I hadn't signed up to. I only noticed when I looked at my bank statement. It was also double the previous year, even though no calls had been made.
When I phoned to cancel I was offered a renewal price higher than I had just paid !
The operator recommended cancelling the policy and signing up as a new customer, which reduced the cost to more or less the same as last year.
Look out around renewal time and don't accept their offer. It's sad that even now we have to do this Merry dance to get to a reasonable offer.
Many reviews highlight the pricing as the only positive feature. I needed a home recovery service after work to reach my mechanic before closing, but they did not follow through on their commitments, and it seemed no one read the notes left. Several representatives were quite discourteous. I would prefer to pay more elsewhere to ensure I get proper assistance during a breakdown. It was a terrible experience. :-(
I contacted the company to verify our coverage as renewal approached and discovered I didn’t have ‘Home Assistance.’ I requested a quote to include this for renewal, and it was offered at a fair price. The agent I spoke with conducted a search on current online pricing and found a lower rate available if I paid today instead of in twelve days. I agreed, and the transaction was handled quickly, efficiently, and correctly. The call was definitely worth it, although I hope I won’t need to rely on the company. Thank you for your assistance!
Many reviews I read emphasize the price as the only positive aspect. I needed home recovery after work to get to my mechanic before closing, but they did not fulfill their promises. It seemed no one read the notes that were left, and I found many representatives to be quite rude. I would rather pay more elsewhere to ensure I receive proper help during a breakdown. It was a dreadful experience. :-(
This was my sixth experience with the company. I had issues with my car not starting at home; a representative bump-started it, and I got it to a garage that couldn't find any faults. A couple of days later, the same issue occurred. They came and transported it to the garage on a flatbed with rapid recovery. Excellent service with little wait time. I haven't needed their assistance since then, knock on wood! I would recommend them based on my experiences.
