Review Time
I've had great experiences with other Profs through these online courses, except for 1 teacher. I took a 1 unit lab class with Khoren Movsesyan, and his rubrics were very vague despite being harsh with grading. He was not very clear about what he expected from the lab reports, and there was an instance where he marked me down on an assignment even though I met the requirements. I did not feel like I was prepared well for his exams. At the very least, I would have found it helpful if he emailed us about which specific topics to study for the exam. He made a 1 unit class unreasonably difficult.
So much money I won't be refunded for :/
Horrible experience. The school was nonresponsive when I initially signed up and tried to get info for my class. I finally got my login about 36 hours before the class started. The instructor was weird about the lockdown browser. (I've had plenty of online classes before that use a lockdown browser and have never had any problems with it. But with SCUHS, the instructor kept adding new things he wanted me to do with my external web cam instead of just telling me upfront.) We got our assignments on Monday of the first week of class to be turned in on Sunday. I submitted everything on Thursday. On Friday night, the instructor posted an orientation video in which he showed how he wanted the assignments to look (i.e., with things not in the instructions).
The whole thing was just a mess. I asked about my refund several days after withdrawing. They couldn't find my withdrawal. I'm skeptical that they are going to honor the refund policy. The whole school is disorganized and poorly run.
It feels like this is a group of people working out of a garage or their parents' basement or something.
I was weary about signing up for the classes with the little to none reviews and bad reviews. I’m happy I did. The professors are great and respond almost immediately. It’s a at your own pace lecture in 5 weeks so if you’re not ready to put in the work to pass then don’t do it. Also every time I called the school they always answered and worked with me on my payments since I paid out of pockets.
The online classes are easy to access and flexible to work around your schedule. The only downside is not the online portion but the financial team. I sent in my private loan way in advance and I had to do all of the following up that was the downside of my experience. I would want the customer service feeling that they cared and follow up with me and have all the information before following up with me with their team. When I told the finance I sent a form they needed and who I sent it to. They said they would follow up with their team. They should have had that before. That is the customer service experience I was looking for. Other than that the classes are great and I feel I am learning a lot.
The professor for my course was extremely difficult than necessary and was not understanding, or accommodation friendly. I had informed her in the beginning of the course that I was deaf, and the professor emailed back with a link to SCU's accommodation team, which I didn't need because the course was online. The proctored test is excessively strict, because I had to pay out of my pocket for an external webcam. When I had to take a practice proctored quiz, I failed it THREE times, because she complained about the "background noise" and "I didn't show enough work space" and something else. I kindly reminded her that I am deaf and I am UNABLE to hear any background noise, because I live at a deaf university, so of course, it's loud here. She gave me a zero for that. She gave me a zero for another attempt because I "didn't show enough workspace" when I reviewed the video, and it clearly showed my hands, the table, and my paper & pen. We went back and forth and she eventually gave up and allowed me to take the exams. Just a heads up, she is extremely picky and will flag almost literally anything. The pros of this course is that it's short and online, so I get to do it on my own time and at my place. The assignments were reasonable and was not overwhelming to complete for a 5 weeks course.
Teachers do not teach and then make exams exceptionally difficult for no reason. Then fail you on the “lockdown browser” protocols for the most ridiculous things like a milliliter of the camera frame being out of view. This is coming from a student that has received only A’s. It is a money grab and they don’t care about student success in the slightest. Another example: one time I asked the professor for important topics that might be covered on the exam and he responded “any topic that was highlighted as important in the textbook” which was 18 chapters of material and EVERY SINGLE WORD/PAGE was highlighted. A study guide was not provided nor lecture slides.
