Review Time
As a former member of The Experience Project, I have looked for a safe, interesting website where I can read or comment or post, as I wish. Similar Worlds does all of that for me, and I have been very happy to visit the site every single day.
The site is an anonymous social website with a q&a forum, and a private messaging section. On the plus: can be fun, good banter and a good laugh. Admin are engaged with the users and respond to feedback. You can gift others, you can filter to tastes, and you can easily block. On the minus: users circumvent the blocks by creating new accounts. There is a lot of bullying and harassment, stalking an extreme debate. The site permits nudity and tends to turn a blind eye to nudity, some users who are banned just make a new account with a new email address. There is no safeguard for the under 18s. In fact no age verification is actually carried out and as a result there are children on the site, some able to view the adult content. This is the main reason for my low score. It also treads a fine line between acceptable fetishism with many questionable groups and posts about child spanking and rape.Edit following response from SimilarWorlds: Facebook and Twitter do not permit nudity, Google request that an adult pay $1 via a credit card to ensure parental permission. SimilarWorlds does not require verification or check parental permission. The review remains as is because the site permits nudity and permits children.
Ι see many people judging this website by its users- which is illogical. You can block whoever you like, just like you can block adult content and of course report any inappropriate behaviour. The admins care about their image so they are trying to reduce the unpleasant parts. Their work is hard, because as this site is the "continuation" of Experience Project, it's infected by many groups that still aren't filtered out with triggering content (such as pedophilia and child abuse in general). Also many people keep complaining about how SW is full of liberals or conservatives or what not... Personally I haven't noticed the admins taking any stand on politics apart from not allowing outright racist posts that are basically hate speech. The site is easy to use and you can be yourself completely and as long as you're not a threat to society, most people won't judge you.
Honestly one of the most underrated Social networks out there, it's predecessor was a bit superior because of various features such as being able to create groups and people being able to easily find extremely old writing of yours. But this one is a lot more anonymous than others and people feel free to be a bit more wild.
