Review Time
I seldom leave bad reviews but SRP fell well short of my expectations. I was happy to find a one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course running last minute on a convenient day and what seemed to be at a reasonable price, but I strongly recommend avoiding them for the following reasons:On the day of the course, I missed my rail connection and took an Uber part of the way to ensure I wouldn't arrive late or hold anyone up. However, when I arrived, I waited to be attended to for 45 mins. It then transpired I was the only participant on the course and the Uber had been an unecessary waste of money. In general, the staff seemed disorganised, unprepared and confused. The building iself was dirty and dilapidated with a strong, unpleasant smell and both the bathroom and kitchen bins were overflowing. I'm not bothered by a bit of dirt but the venue is just not fit to run courses to external customers, particularly courses about first aid and safety! The course itself was not a full day but 4 hours and involved a simplistic worksheet, a 1 hour video, briefly looking through a pamphlet and a few quiz questions before sitting a short test, and no practical component. I spent quite a lot of it sat on my own in a room. There were no practical elements or demos whatsoever which would seem essential on a course teaching how to administer emergency first aid including CPR, the recovery position etc. I took the course as I wanted to feel more prepared in work emergencies, and while the 'pass' bar might be low on these courses, I didn't really learn anything I couldn't have just read on the internet. Having spoken to colleagues who attended one day first aid courses at other organisations (e.g. St Johns) the SPR course bears no resemblance. It seems the course is aimed at people sent by their company or just looking for a bit of paper but if you actually want to learn anything meaningful, and in a vaguely pleasant environment, I'm sorry to say this course is a waste of £75.
