Review Time
OMG I so wish I had read these reviews before going to this place. I completely agree with what others have said. We had to wait over an hour and a half for our food which, when it finally arrived, was simply awful. The vegetables were cold and looked like they had a former life in a freezer, had been re-heated more than half an hour before they reached us and tasted like cardboard. A fight nearly broke out between another disgruntled customer and a guy who seemed to be the manager. Astonishingly, his response to complaints was that ‘it is always like this on a Saturday’ as if that makes it ok!! I felt very sorry for the staff who are clearly working in a stressful environment and facing the brunt of very frustrated customers (all you could hear was people getting angry). Whoever runs this place needs to take a long hard look at themselves as this is a really badly run venue in a fabulous location. I would suggest that you need to hire at least 2 more chefs (I am not sure that there are any at the moment) and more staff to operate what is such a large venue.
This place tries to project the image of gastro-pub food quality but really it's more accurately like cheap ready meal quality. We ordered the steak and venison pie and chicken and pancetta pie which they claim to be "award winning". What we got was a small round hard pastry base with a spoonful of filling (which didn't taste of much)and topped with a small puff pasty which was added separately. The mash potato was a small splattering of mash that looked like it'd been thrown on the plate from a distance, and overcooked vegetables that were so soft that it could be used to feed a one year old baby with no teeth.Don't waste your money eating at Danson Stables. The food is terrible for the price.
Quite possibly the worst dining experience ever - and I've had thousands!!! I can vouch for all the other reviews and add what I consider inexcusable, ie THE FILTH. Sticky tables are an immediate turn off but when the menus are plastered with layer upon layer of stains from who knows what, then I felt it only fair to warn off other would be diners; what the kitchens were like can only be imagined. Needless to say, we transferred to another popular establishment down the road before the experience could get any worse.
Went there today. Avoid it like the plague! The bread and olives entree we had ordered took one and a half hours to arrive. After two hours the main course still had not arrived. I was told it was because we had a starter (which took 1.5 hours to arrive). I told them the olives had arrived half an hour ago and where was the main course. I was told we would get it in 15 minutes. Half an hour later it finally arrived 2.5 hours after it had been ordered. Many customers were upset by the bad service and having heated arguments with the staff. It needs a new owner or new management. I’ll never go there for a meal again. Shame as it’s such a beautiful location.
Booked a table for Sunday lunch. We were seated on time but had to ask for menus. Waited an hour for lukewarm starters to be served. Twice in that time we asked how long it would be to be told “ they’ll be out soon”. The bread served with the mussels had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp for some time as it was completely dried out and on the verge of being toasted.Waited a further 30 minutes once the starters had been cleared for the main course which was, again, luke warm. Didn’t bother to order dessert or coffee. At no point during the entire time we were there did anyone offer an explanation or apology for the delay.
Went for my Husbands Birthday with the family. Beautiful location and been decorated really nicely. We ordered on the app as the bar was busy. Ordered Mussels and prawn and calamari. 2 of each. the mussels were ok the prawn and calamari was awful, service took 45 mins to get to us the mussels were delivered and eaten still no sign of the prawn dish- it arrived after us chasing and it had clearly been sat under the lamps waiting for ages. Main meals. we ordered lamb shank - this was fine, chicken and ham pie was fine, fish and chips - greasy and cold, burgers greasy and cold we complained and it looked and tasted like the dishes had been put whole into a microwave to warm them up - they were awful - went home hungry. we got refund on two mains but would not refund anymore as we had eaten some of the meal - well we were starving!! no check that the food was ok by staff and the whole attitude was awful when we did complain - properly ruined our day out - will never go there again for food.
This pub is in such a great location but is run so poorly.Have been here in the past and the food and service was extreamly poor.We thougth we would give it another go.I had a mixed grill. The chicken was as dry as a bone. The gammon was just overcooked fat.I asked for the steak to be cook medium rare, but it was an incinerated unchewable lump.i wasnt expecting Michelin star food, but i did expect it to be edible, but it most certainly wasn't.Never again.
