Easy and organized sites, good explanation of hardware with a wide variety. I bought a few things and mistakenly they were wrong(my error)(twice), they very easily solved the it for me and helped me out with a quick response. They won a long term customer, if you're looking for anything they have trust me you can't go wrong with them.
Read my review if you're left confused by the mixed reviews. I needed various hardware that i couldn't find in local big stores. The Mc Master Carr website is exquisitely designed from my engineering background. Before placing my order i was worried about the negative reviews on undisclosed excessive shipping cost. But it turned to be completely untrue (either that or they changed their checkout procedure). BEFORE i paid i was given the shipping cost in the kart and it was not expensive at all like some wrote. The box came perfect dimensions, with a nicely printed shipping page enclosed listing all the items (something the fast degrading AMZN company is now failing to do). Every enclosed item was numbered to show it matched the list. Not only that but they ship you everything in one shipment ( something AMZN does not give you the option to do. I recently ordered 5 items from AMZN and got 5 shipments over 3 weeks what a mess). The delivery occurred just in 2 days. I can only highly recommend McMaster-Carr. Also it's not really more expensive. I was very happy.I think those reviewers who complain are doing odd things like buying with one address and name and shipping to a commercial different address. There is no reason a merchant would refuse to sell unless the seller is posing a risk or problem. All i can say is that if you're within the Usa then just go ahead and place your order, everything went smoother than an amzn prime order for me. Especially no worries about receiving returned items or poorly packaged or damaged items as seen from AMZN since they increased their staff with DEI people.
Not interested in the customer if the customer RENTS SPACE from another commercial business. It's like talking to a brick wall. Freight charges are astronomical. Don't use McMaster-Carr, there are better places to get the same items cheaper. From McMaster-Carr email. "We will not ship directly to your customer. If you'd like us to ship to a VIP Sales location, please resubmit your order with a revised delivery address."My Reply: "I rent space at TAM and you have shipped there for several years. It is a commercial address."
These guys have virtually EVERYTHING I've wanted in the way of hardware, both personally and for my job as a mechanical engineer at a Navy base manufacturing rocket propellant. Their catalog looks like an old-time urban phone book; it's about 3" of thin paper pages, with the best lookup system I've ever seen, but they can be tight about giving out the hard copies. And they have had 2-day delivery on most items since long before Amazon ever existed. They are not a discount operation however; their pricing is mainly manufacturer suggested retail.
I placed an order with this company of a few hundred dollars value.I then received a short curt email reply that informed me that my order had been cancelled, no explanation, no apology, just cancelled. When I enquired futher I was told it was the import costs into Australia of which on the amount is next to nothing. I informed them it was incorrect and was then told they do not ship to residential address. I responded by telling them my business is registered, hoods a tax number and does indeed share an address which my dwelling is also on, seperate to my factory.I was then told I was not a suitable "End user" for them to do business with.So I advise to avoid this fools.
Set up an account, ordered via invoice payment method. CC was requested, added CC and paid by CC. Placed a second order via invoice. Order was cancelled and was asked to pay by CC. Paid by CC. Asked why invoice service didn't work. Credit issue? New account issue? Abrupt and evasive customer service reps, misanthropic weirdo vibes.Huge catalog, great website structure, drawing files are a huge help, shipping is fast, transaction emails with fulfillment details are robust. Prices all over the map. Shipping is obviously a profit center so they can front run artificially-low prices. Small bag of plastic plugs that could ship for 4 bucks cost 25 bucks ground. Not overnight, not 2-day. Bald-faced greed.tl;dr: no frills, dehumanized, rip-offy experience. Low-tier version of Uline but for fasteners not boxes. If they upped their game on CS, fair shipping rates and easy automated low-limit credit terms, they'd be able to command slightly higher-than-comfortable prices like Uline through high performance and excellence. Right now their value proposition is scraping 3d drawings and buying somewhere else.
I have ordered from McMaster before and never had a bad experience. If anything , the shipping was super fast in 2 days. To me that's fast considering the amount of orders they have to fill daily. When I need an odd part that's hard to find anywhere, MCMaster will always have it. Recently, they stood behind a product that I bought a couple of years ago. I am not saying that they can always do that but considering my situation and how the product should've lasted a lot longer they replaced it, no questions asked. BTW, the product failing was not any of MCMaster's fault. It was the manufacturer's job to step in but they instead stepped up and provided a great customer experience. Thanks to Cindy for facilitating this quick process!
