Disappointed by poorly maintained kids activities

I was so disappointed by our visit today. The tank exhibits are amazing and truly interesting it feels like you've tried to cater for children but as a poorly maintained afterthought. I saw your advert on Facebook and I felt like it promised so much but didn't live up to the hype. We were really excited to see the live tank demonstration, as were my kids but in reality there was 20 minutes of talking about the tanks and 5 minutes of actual action. It would have been so great if that ratio was reversed. My children were left disappointed. In the soft play area we were promised some STEM activities which transpired to be colouring or design your own tank (just drawing or colouring) very uninspiring. A quick Google of stem activities on propulsion yields many fun activities that could have been set up for kids to try. We then went into an area that had some wooden and Lego tanks to assemble. My kids were immediately engaged only to find that so many of the Lego bits were missing that there was no possibility of assembling the kits properly. Lots of the children had leaflets where they had to find things to stamp. It would have been great if this had been handed to us on arrival. It wasn't even mentioned when we paid for our tickets so we missed out on that because we avoided the gift shop where they were available. There could also have a quiz type sheet at a higher level so older children had to read and search for information. Bristol Aerospace to this really well. The games and toys area turned out to be more colouring and a very small selection of toys from the gift shop to play with. There were tables of scenery and little men but no tanks to play with so what excitement had been generated was lost because they wanted to "play tanks". This feels like a really obvious thing to have. Or maybe there were tanks and it was just poorly maintained like the Lego. The best thing for them was the tank playground which got a big thumbs up. As adults we were really interested but our kids were disappointed and frustrated repeatedly. There is so much potential for this to be a great day out but kids are an afterthought. This is an EXPENSIVE day out for a family where you are left with kids having repeated meltdowns because there is a lack of innovative engaging things for kids. If the person who was responsible for your Facebook advertising was put in charge of children's engagement maybe it would be a different story. I wanted this so much to be brilliant and it just fell so far short of the mark.

Great day out

Great day out - and you ticket allows entry for 12 months. More than enough to see and do in one day and the talks are excellent.

What a fabulous day out!

What a fabulous day out. Excellent from the start to the end. Quite apart from the exceptional exhibits, the WW1 trenches exhibition was startlingly good, very powerful and extremely well curated. There was a live demo with 4 vintage/tracked and wheeled vehicles on a mock battlefield, with pyrotechnics and a knowledgeable commentator. The shop had a wide range of clothing and souvenirs, and the restaurant had a good and well priced range of food. Plenty of parking, and the Museum well signposted. Everything was clean and well presented. Thoroughly recommended.

Rip off jobsworths

Terrible customer service. We wanted to visit as a group of 10 but they wouldn’t allow us and insisted we give 48hrs notice. I explained that we were leaving Dorset the following day but the jobsworth wouldn’t have it. Rip off to change a family with small kids £200 to visit as a group unless you give 48hrs notice. It makes no sense.
