Frustrating Experience with Car Rental

I rented a car from a service in Dubrovnik on 30th September 2025 through an online platform. The car was returned fully fueled and in good condition on 6th October 2025. Everything was on time and clean. The deposit was supposed to be returned by 3rd November 2025. However, I have not received any refund. After contacting the support team, they directed me to the car rental service. When I reached out to the rental service, they told me to follow up with the online platform. I submitted a complaint form on 28th November 2025, and now it's 3rd January 2026 with no updates or refund. If the rental service sees this, please address ticket number A816883A. My next step may be small claims court.

Complete scam!

Complete scam! £75 per day for a compact vehicle, and an additional £147 for just 16 extra hours at the end of the rental. I contacted the support team two days before my rental was set to conclude, and they were unhelpful. I would never choose this service again; I'd prefer to walk!

Never book a rental with Avis. I was lied to at pickup about the fuel and was told that if I did not

Never book a rental with Avis. I was lied to at pickup about the fuel and was told that if I did not fill the car up I would be charged for what I used at US$3.19 a gallon which i was told was a great deal. I used 1/4 of a tank, less than 4 gallons and was charged for 19 gallons, more than the tank capacity of the vehicle

Extremely disappointing experience at the airport booking center

I encountered a very frustrating and unprofessional situation at the airport booking center, despite having booked a car in advance after consulting with the staff. When I arrived to collect the vehicle on the scheduled day, I was informed that they couldn't provide a car because I held an international driving permit along with a UK provisional license. This is the most unreasonable explanation I have ever encountered in the UK, especially from the staff at the airport.

STEER CLEAR OF THIS RENTAL SERVICE

STEER CLEAR OF THIS RENTAL SERVICE My experience with this rental service was completely unacceptable and misleading. I booked and paid for a vehicle classified as Medium. At no point during the booking process or in the confirmation was I informed that two credit cards would be necessary for this reservation. Only upon arrival at the rental desk was I informed that two credit cards in my name were mandatory. This requirement was never disclosed beforehand. I tried to resolve the situation by suggesting alternatives, such as holding a security deposit on my debit card or having my spouse provide her credit cards as the second card, but these options were outright rejected by the unhelpful staff member at the desk. Due to the service introducing an undisclosed condition at pickup, I was denied the vehicle I originally booked and instead received a smaller car, which is classified as Small. This was a clear downgrade from what I had paid for. The company’s own terms state that any requirement for two credit cards for higher-end vehicles must be confirmed at the time of booking. This did not occur. Changing the rules at the counter and pressuring customers into a lower-class vehicle is simply unacceptable. This was a prime example of poor transparency, inflexible staff, and misleading rental practices. I have filed formal complaints and would strongly recommend that others avoid this rental service.

I booked an AVIS car through Booking.com and went through all the usual booking hoops necessary befo

I booked an AVIS car through Booking.com and went through all the usual booking hoops necessary before travelling . However when I arrived & presented my physical driving licence, drivers code etc and then had a frustrating discussion about waiver cover ( note I had it with Booking.com NOT AVIS) I was denied the vehicle. When I asked why I got some gobbledygook about ‘ although I had a clean licence I had had points on it within the last 5 years and AVIS policy was not to rent to these individuals’. I subsequently checked and re checked Booking.com site and AVIS policy is actually 6 or less active points on your DVLA record is ok. They do reserve a discretionary right to deny a vehicle to anyone if they feel like it. I suspect after the discussion about the waiver the employee felt vindictive towards me. So after being stranded I walked with my bags across the busy dual carriageway at Heathrow to Europcar and within 5 minutes hired a car. Europcar actually had all my details from a previous car hire and the staff member greeted me with such courtesy. They have exactly the same hire policy as AVIS I’m told. I’m writing this to warn everyone that car hire is a very mixed experience and despite being a very competitive industry some companies like AVIS prefer a ‘computer says no’ approach whenever there is the slightest issue. This can be anything. Fortunately I’m in my home country and I speak English. Imagine if I’d been a family with children from abroad with English as a second language?! AViS staff wouldn't have cared less. In addition Booking through 3rd party companies such as Booking .con needs to be done with great care. Don’t assume anything however reasonable it may seem. Insurance waivers / excess are used to make additional money. The cars are virtually uninsured that’s how the headline price is so initially attractive. AVIS have a staggering £2200 damage excess charge. This means you will pay that amount in full even if the damage done doesn’t even come to that. There’s also other charges.

Extremely Unhappy with the Service Encountered

I am extremely unhappy with the service I received from the branch at the airport. From the moment I arrived, the staff were unhelpful, dismissive, and showed no willingness to assist with even basic inquiries. Rather than offering clarity or support, they were rude and unprofessional, turning the entire experience into an unnecessary source of stress.

Awful Experience

Awful! They have taken over £600 from my bank when the initial car rental was only £156.

Steer Clear of This Service at Düsseldorf Terminal 1 – Unprofessional and Disrespectful Staff

I am very let down by the customer service I received from the branch at Düsseldorf Airport Terminal 1. From the moment I arrived, the staff were unhelpful, dismissive, and showed no willingness to assist with even basic inquiries. Instead of providing clarity or support, they were rude and unprofessional, making the entire experience unnecessarily stressful.
