We recently moved from Newbury and had Rupert Reeves dealing with the sale for us. He was superb in every way. There were a few obstacles on the way but Rupert dealt with them all in a very professional manner. Thanks to Rachel and Logan at the Newbury branch for securing the Landlords' permission to proceed and then smoothly and efficiently coordinating the related work required to maintain the flat I rent through Carter Jonas. Also my thanks go to Paul and Tamas who completed the work in a professional, cooperative and efficient manner and to a very high standard.I received excellent communication throughout from both teams.
Agent was polite and well spoken but we were completely misled on a property that we fell in love with. We were not informed that the sewage comprised a cesspit which under current environmental law is illegal. The owner would not take responsibility, provided a fake quote for a septic tank and then the wrong percolation test. We spent £1400 to have it professionally looked into to find that it would cost £23k to put right. We still wanted to go ahead mainly because of the location being close to our grandchildren and the little cottage which we felt was ideal for downsizing. The”pastureland” is waste land and accommodates the overflowing sewage from the house.It is riddled with horsetail , underneath, the owner disclosed later “might be” a mine. We still wanted it! We had offered £20k over the exacting price we had the cash ready and were willing and able to spend out on making good the land. Once the drainage issue was sorted, we arranged a house survey at which point the vendor pulled the plug, he was bullying us into going ahead with solicitor, searches etc before the house survey was done. Our solicitor had firmly advised us not to spend any more money until the house survey was done. I feel Carter Jonas colluded with a cover up, failed to disclose the issues with the sewage and the adjoining land and we now wonder why were we being cornered? A very upsetting experience all in all and a great loss of time and money for us.
