The engineer I chose was a native English speaker and understood my needs. He was competent and solved my issue.

I've been very pleased with Codementor…

I've been very pleased with Codementor and have relied upon it frequently over the last three years or so. I've worked with only two mentors and of those with one overwhelmingly. I've been very pleased with both mentors I've worked with.

Holy Grail Resource

I've used several times over the past couple years and LOVE. Gives me on-demand help from experts who will walk me through problems slowly or just solve them for me. I haven't seen any scammers on here so far. Everyone has been experts who got me past roadblocks efficiently. Well one exception, but they offered me a refund when they couldn't solve my problem. This company is one of my "holy grail" resources in my work.

There’s no better way to get rapid…

There’s no better way to get rapid access to expert coders. I’ve used Codementor to pair with people spanning my whole tech stack: Ruby of Rails, JavaScript, Android and Swift for mobile. Probably some stuff I’ve even forgotten about. It’s a great service.

They still take 20% of the fee charged…

They still take 20% of the fee charged to the client. The threshold to move to a lower ratio is way too high. Upwork is routinely eating their lunch in this regard. The mobile app is still inconsistent with delivering messages in a timely fashion, and it still requires me to sign in with a username and password instead of SSO.There's no way to invoice clients on an hourly basis, unless we start a paid session and leave it running while I work.Joining the Zoom call attached to a session routinely ends up putting the mentor and mentee in different Zoom calls.I routinely get emails showing me the latest messages from clients, even though I'm IN THE CHAT and responding to those messages at that moment. The fact that a client isn't prompted to leave me a review after I've given them a free session, is disappointing. All of that said, the clients I've received through Codementor have been some of the longest-running.------------------------------------------------------------EDIT (responding to platform's comments on the above):[1. Codementor's fee. Please note that our fee may be higher than other platforms (eg. Upwork) as we vet our mentors in 2 ways -- identity verification and English proficiency assessment. This is to ensure mentees experience on the platform is fruitful and productive.]If Codementor offered the same set of features as Upwork, AND identity verification, maybe then the increased rate could be justified. Unfortunately, Codementor lags behind Upwork in a number of areas, so it just hasn't earned this higher rate yet (in my opinion).[2. Invoicing on hourly basis. In this case, please fully gauge the scope of work with the mentee and see how long it will take to finish the work. With the agreed upon hourly rate and duration, you can encourage the mentee to create a Freelance Job with the set budget both parties agree on.]Any developer understands the frequency of scope creep. Neither the client nor the developer feels good when the realization occurs that the original estimate will be insufficient for the project at hand. This means either the client gets an unfinished project, the developer is underpaid for services, or the developer needs to ask for more money. Fixed-rate budgets are rarely suitable for code-based projects.[3. Email notifications of latest messages. As mentioned, this will be raised to our team. On the other hand, should you wish to minimize the notification emails, you can opt out to message notification on your Settings page.]Chat messages from clients can take up to 45 minutes to reach my inbox. I pride myself in being extremely responsive, but the delay in notifications through both email and the mobile app make it extremely difficult to do this on Codementor. To combat this, I need to always have a tab / screen dedicated to Codementor to ensure I see messages as soon as they come in. On top of this, there are no customization options for the notification sound that occurs for a new message, and the default "pop" is extremely short, quiet and easy to miss. However, I do not want to eliminate email messages in my inbox for chat messages. I need to know when a client has reached out, in the event I've missed the very quiet notification "pop" or was in a call with another client. I just want the system to be smarter, and know that if I'm in a live session with the client, I don't need an email sending the messages I'm responding to at that moment. This leads to another issue - the fact that I can't chat with other clients while in a session. The only way to handle this is to have TWO tabs of Codementor open when in session. It would be much more ideal to have the chat widget available when I'm in session.I will note that new "open requests" appear simultaneously in the browser tab and in my inbox, so at least I can respond to those fairly quickly.[4. Client reviews after a free session. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. However, this policy is in place to ensure that mentors are fairly compensated and receive appropriate reviews and ratings for the work they have been paid for. If you believe that the free assistance you provided was valuable, we encourage you to ask the mentee to leave a small tip via Direct Payment. Afterward, the mentee will be able to leave a review and rating.]I offer a free session (regardless of length) to all of my new clients. I do this for three reasons:1. It allows them to assess my skillset and working style.2. It reduces the friction for newcomers.3. It sets me apart from other mentors on the platform. It entirely defeats the purpose of the Free Session if I have to ask for a tip, just to enable them to share their feedback on my profile.

Give me a safety net to try new things

CodeMentor is an awesome platform for developers who need some extra help or an extra set of eyes. Whether you’re learning something new or stuck on a project, I can find a Codementor for pretty much any dev discipline and having that safety net allows me to try new things.

Best place to find instant coding help

I have been working on Codementor as a mentor for the last 8+ years and the journey has been so impactful and fulfilling.I have helped people from all levels: From someone who is brand new to programming to 30+ years of experienced Senior Software Engineers, Product Managers and everyone in between. It's been an amazing journey here at CodeMentor for the last 8+ years! :-)In my experience, their 100% satisfaction guarantee is a great testimony to their commitment to serve the mentees who are seeking coding help with peace of mind. Also, as a mentor, I feel safe because of the payment guarantee.Codementor is the best place to get instant help from industry experts and get unstuck in no time. I wish there was codementor when I was learning how to code! That would save me a lot of headache and frustration. It may seem pricey, but you pay for what you get.Overall, I think codementor is an amazing platform for both mentors and mentees. I wish all the best for their growing success.
