Assignments are filled with bugs

Many of the assignments do not work, where even if the candidate solved the task correctly, the platform still says that they failed.

Like using a “Rubix Cube” to assess a Salesman

Just my experience. I selected “react-native” and this is what I got.1) React Native hasn't been JavaScript-first in years. Most modern React Native codebases use TypeScript by default. Even legacy JS-based projects have long since adopted ES6 modules, not CommonJS, which was deprecated ages ago. The test felt like it was pulled from a tutorial circa 2014. The tech stack was outdated by nearly a decade and not representative of how React Native is built or written today.2) I literally had to use Chrome DevTools to debug your own test harness. The embedded console crashed multiple times, and I had to patch around it just to get a working environment. That shouldn't be necessary during a skills assessment.3) Despite completing the task correctly—and ahead of time—the system flagged the result as invalid or non-compliant, with zero explanation. I wish I’d recorded the session, because from my side, everything was above board.4) Even if the test environment had worked, the content itself was entry-level and overly focused on syntax minutiae. It’s like asking a senior software engineer to prove their experience by solving a freshman-year programming quiz from memory, without documentation, in a broken IDE. Yes, we can do it. But why would we? It’s not a valid measure of real-world capability.

Solution yields correct output (character by character), and still is marked as incorrect

Even though my solution yields the exact same result show in the test examples (I even used a text diff tool to double check), Coderbyte consistently may response as incorrect. I've never had such a flabbergasting experience with a code challenge website (which are mostly bad anyways). LeetCode is the benchmark for me.

STAY AWAY FROM CODERBYTE!

I had signed up for a 14 day trial period, to analyze on the online assessment that we had planned for our company's recruitment process. The platform doesn't have the image proctering functionality. The reports analyzed shows the suspicious activity, left tab/click press events, etc. All fine. Post the trial ended, we got only 1 reminder stating to make the payment; mind it that it doesn't mention that the credit card information we had attached, was failing. Our trial ended on 18th Feb and we got an email on 19th Feb. We tried logging in couple of times but unable to do so. I tried submitting the query on 20th Feb through their form form linked in their websiteI submitted my query as shown below:------------------Unable to login to my account. I tried resetting the password but I do not receive any email. Please help as we need to make the payment and resume the hiring at our end.Thanks!-----------Post which I received below response from "Daniel Borowski, CEO":-------------------The account was flagged and then deleted because this was the second time the payment failed.-----------------I replied stating:------------------Hey Daniel,Please propose the solution also rather than just stating the problem and putting an end to the conversation. Plus, it's disappointing to see such a harsh policy of deleting the account if the e-payment is not made. Take it as a suggestion but this won't keep your customers happy if such incidents take place in the future..Thanks! -----------------To which, he responded:-----------------Feel free to sign up again with a valid credit card!------------------Blunt and arrogant responses from their CEO. Terribly policies of deleting the accounts where we had created our own custom assessments, had our test assessment reports of candidates, etc. All lost.STAY AWAY FROM CODERBYTE!

Overpriced, vengeful CEO

Overpriced, broken trial, vengeful emails. 1. "Trial period" involves a $200 charge. Had to argue with support to get money back. 2. "Trial period" only involves 5 emails sent, even if you send it to yourself to test it support will rudely refuse to grant you any additional credits. 3. Incredibly overpriced. Starts at $200 a month ... or $15 per candidate test sent...Here is the response from their CEO.. copy/pasted:"Instead of asking for more invites during trial, you cancelled and left a review on TrustPilot? We would have happily increased your trial limit if you for some reason couldn't simply start the subscription.Anyway, good luck with another tool and I'm glad you'll never waste my time again as a customer."CEO sent this email in response to this review, after ignoring our previous email :/

I lost access to my organizational account and have contacted support multiple times with no response. I even tried booking a sales call, but received no follow-up. It feels like I've been completely ignored.

My experience was excellent and very satisfactory. I didn't encounter any problems while practicing. The challenges were well-structured and very helpful. The platform is user-friendly, and I was able to improve my skills significantly. I would highly recommend Coderbyte to any developer looking to enhance their coding abilities.
